Despite early audience hesitations, game development studio Bloober Team more than proved it could handle a remake of a beloved survival horror video game with the massive critical and commercial success of the Silent Hill 2 remake. Bloober Team has already confirmed that it will be working on a remake of the original Silent Hill, so it should come as no surprise that a rose-themed teaser for a mysterious announcement set for February 14 has had retro horror gaming fans speculating that a Rule of Rose remake could be on the way from the studio. Unfortunately, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno has shut down any hype for a return of Rule of Rose, though he has given audiences a bit more insight into what exactly Bloober is working on.

When Bloober Team first teased its next project with a curious website, fans quickly began putting together their own theories on what the Silent Hill 2 remake studio may be cooking up. Some have been keeping their fingers crossed for the iconic Born From A Wish DLC for Silent Hill 2 to get a reveal, while others are hoping to see additional content for Bloober Team's latest original IP Cronos: The New Dawn. After the newest hint for the studio's February 14 announcement included a rose icon, many quickly jumped to the conclusion that a Rule of Rose remake may be in the works. While horror fans have been champing at the bit for Rule of Rose to return to the spotlight, it would seem Bloober Team will not be the one to lead such a project, at least for now.

Bloober Team CEO Responds to Rule of Rose Remake Rumors

Responding on LinkedIn to a post by media outlet Twisted Voxel that reported on the possibility of Bloober Team's next project being a Rule of Rose remake, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno commented that the speculation was a "nice guess" but clarified that the rose teaser for February 14 "definitely doesn't refer to any remake." Many consider Rule of Rose to be an underappreciated standout among PS2 survival horror games, with the game building a dedicated cult following over the years, despite its clunky gameplay. As such, audiences were understandably excited about the potential for a Rule of Rose remake, but that hype has been quickly diminished with Babieno's clarification that Bloober Team's February 14 reveal will not be a remake of any sort.

This would also seemingly knock out the Born From A Wish DLC, as that would fall under remake classification, though the potential for Bloober Team to one day pick up that DLC or a Rule of Rose remake is not entirely out of the question. The sheer audience hype alone could be reason enough for Bloober Team to consider a Rule of Rose remake sometime down the road, though the studio is confirmed to already have multiple projects in the works that will no doubt receive prioritization. A 2025 investor relations report showed at least four games in development at Bloober Team, including the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive Project M. Whether February 14 will finally unveil Project M or another original new project from Bloober Team remains to be seen, but horror gaming fans will want to keep a close eye on updates about the next big project from Bloober.

Even though Bloober Team's CEO Piotr Babieno has laid the Rule of Rose remake rumors to rest, there is arguably still plenty of reason for horror fans to be excited for February 14. Cronos: The New Dawn earned its own accolades for revitalizing third-person sci-fi horror, and the overwhelmingly positive reception of the Silent Hill 2 remake has elevated Bloober Team to a key role within the horror gaming space. Between Project M, the remake of the first Silent Hill, and the trademark for Onyx: The Dark Grip, Bloober Team seems to have plenty more projects in the works for fans to look forward to, come February 14 and beyond.
