When someone watches an action anime like Bleach for the first time, they will pay close attention to the plot/character developments while also absorbing the basics of the combat system. The second time, fans may focus more on how the power rankings shake out, not to mention each character's win rate. That makes it more fun to watch the likes of Bleach, treating it as a bloody sport with statistics to match. Viewers will soon realize which fighters are on a roll and which are lucky to even survive the series.

For the most part, the Bleach characters with the best win rates are major cast members who frequently get into fights and have the strength to prevail. Curiously, protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki is an exception, since he tends to lose to each major opponent before winning later. He even lost to Grimmjow and Ulquiorra twice each before defeating them, and he lost to Yhwach twice as well. That leaves other Bleach characters with more impressive win rates.

Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto Only Loses When His Enemies Counter His Zanpakuto

Despite his titanic power as a legendary Soul Reaper, Captain Yamamoto has the lowest rank among the best-performing fighters in Bleach. That's because Yamamoto's legendary power sometimes works against him, with all of Yamamoto's enemies knowing what they're up against -- and preparing accordingly. That contributed to Yamamoto's two major losses in Bleach, starting with Aizen sealing Yamamoto's fire-based zanpakuto in the battle for the fake Karakura Town. Then, Yhwach stole Yamamoto's bankai with his medallion before killing Yamamoto with impunity.

Otherwise, Yamamoto's combat record is a strong one, with him defeating Yhwach centuries ago and defeating foes such as Wonderweiss and Driscoll Berci in the present day. Wonderweiss was actually meant to counter Yamamoto, but the Gotei 13 commander slew that strange Arrancar anyway, which no doubt impressed many viewers. Yamamoto also easily dispatched the Tres Bestias and three Sternritter with just a fraction of his power, and had the restraint to not kill any of them.

Byakuya Kuchiki Tends to Win Even if His Arrogance Sabotages Him Sometimes

Captain Byakuya Kuchiki presents himself as a proper and professional warrior at all times, and he often justifies that lofty image with combat victories. That includes some easy wins in Byakuya's villainous days, with him casually taking out Ichigo in their first meeting. Byakuya also defeated and almost killed both Renji and Ganju in the Soul Society Arc. Then, he fought Ichigo to a draw and personally yielded to Ichigo, losing the fight but also redeeming himself.

7 Most Unlikable Bleach Characters Fans Can't Stand

Bleach had its share of unlikable characters that fans couldn't stand.

Byakuya did well in the following arcs as well, handily dispatching both Zommari and Yammy, fighting the latter with Kenpachi's aid. He also overcame the weird powers of Tsukishima the Fullbringer in the following arc, only to suffer some mishaps in the Thousand-Year Blood War arc. Byakuya's complacency became apparent when Äs Nödt captured his bankai and almost killed him, but Byakuya helped Rukia avenge him later. Most importantly, Byakuya gained a better perspective on himself and his zanpakuto, which was a critical personal win for him.

Uryu Ishida Has Done Well With His Quincy Techniques and Planning

Sometimes, the Plot Bails Uryu Out of Trouble, Too

Ichigo's good friend Uryu Ishida, the Quincy sports one of the best win rates in all of Bleach, despite being a side character. Granted, Uryu sometimes needed help from other characters or last-minute plot twists to technically win in the sense that his enemy died while he did not. For example, Uryu almost lost to Szayelaporro Grantz, only for Captain Kurotsuchi to take over. Uryu was also knocked right out when he encountered Captain Tosen, but that was hardly a fight, and Uryu had already lost his powers by then. Uryu's other near-loss was when Ulquiorra killed him, only for Ichigo to revive and intervene.

Aside from that, Uryu is on a serious roll in Bleach. He helped Ichigo drive off a Menos Grande in the early days before defeating a number of Soul Reapers, Mayuri Kurotsuchi among them. Uryu also scored victories against Iceringer and Cirucci Sanderwicci in the Arrancar arc before he moved on to the Thousand-Year Blood War. That was when Uryu defeated Renji's bankai, won a personal battle against Jugram Haschwalth, and most impressively, slew Senjumaru Shutara with the power of The Antithesis. Uryu even contributed to Ichigo's final triumph over Yhwach with that special silver arrowhead.

Kisuke Urahara Wins Whenever He Can Prepare His Cunning Tricks

That Made Kisuke a Special War Power

Ex-Captain Kisuke Urahara actually doesn't fight that often in Bleach's story, but when he does, he tends to shine. Kisuke did struggle against the scheming Sosuke Aizen in that flashback sequence, but since then, Kisuke has been dominating the battlefield. He helped drive off Ulquiorra and Yammy with Yoruichi's aid, for example, and he helped Ichigo defeat Aizen as well. Then, early in the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc, Kisuke contributed to Quilge Opie's downfall.

Bleach: 6 Characters Who Could Lead Their Own Series

These Bleach characters are interesting enough to carry their own spin-offs.

Later, Kisuke scored a tactical victory for everyone when he helped the Soul Reapers use Hollow pills to force the Sternritter to give up their stolen bankai. Next, Kisuke fought Askin Nakk Le Vaar with the incredible power of his never-before-seen bankai. For the second time, Kisuke put some serious hurt on a Sternritter to make room for Grimmjow to finish that opponent off. Even if Kisuke doesn't always land the final blow, he hardly ever loses, either.

Grimmjow Was on a Winning Streak in the Arrancar Saga

Many villains in Bleach have low win rates, with the likes of Ggio Vega and Zommari Rureaux only taking part in a single battle before losing. Loly Airvirrne actually lost several fights without winning any, and it's a miracle she survived all that. By contrast, Grimmjow Jaegerjaques did quite well in Bleach as the 6th Espada. He notched a major victory over Ichigo, then he all but won during the rematch. Next, Grimmjow easily slew both Loly and Menoly in Las Noches and sealed away Ulquiorra when they clashed.

Grimmjow finally lost to Ichigo in their final duel, but he survived to score more victories in the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc. He was the one who helped Kisuke finish off both Quilge and Askin, making them almost seem like unwitting combat partners. The biggest takeaway, though, is that no matter his strong win rate, Grimmjow is still not satisfied. Grimmjow is typical of his kind, a desperate being who tries in vain to fill the emptiness inside with ever more power. Nnoitora and Baraggan would know about that, too.

Sosuke Aizen Has Suffered Only One Permanent Defeat

Ichigo Finished What Aizen Started When Battling Yhwach

Sosuke Aizen is another major Bleach villain who was not satisfied to fight just one or two battles and lose to the heroes. His winning streak was launched in a flashback sequence, where then-Lieutenant Aizen effectively won against the entire Gotei 13. He got away with his cruel Hollowfication experiments, and he even escaped the wrath of the Kido Corps with his own kido, impressively enough. Later, Aizen made fools of Toshiro, Ichigo, and Renji in the Soul Society arc and once again got away.

Aizen went on to defeat yet more Soul Reapers and Visoreds, who were little more than jobbers for him. At last, Aizen suffered his only major defeat in Bleach, with Ichigo and Kisuke teaming up to seal him away. Much later, Aizen nearly lost to Yhwach while posing as Ichigo, but his near-defeat was staved off when Ichigo took over the fight with Uryu's aid. Aizen ended up re-imprisoned after that, but he seemed satisfied with how things turned out, so that may count as another win for this seemingly unstoppable shonen villain.
