Blades of Fire is an action-adventure with many similarities to the Dark Souls series and God of War. While you can increase protagonist Aran's health and stamina, his strength comes from the weapons he wields. When finding an Anvil, Aran can transport himself to the Forge of the Gods, where he can craft iron and other materials into sacred steel.
Interview: Blades of Fire's Art Director Talks 80s Inspirations and Creating a Brutal Fantasy World
The Best War Games speaks with Blades of Fire Art Director Arturo Serrano about his biggest inspirations and his role in forging the game's dark fantasy world.
Rather than leveling up, the key to defeating stronger enemies (like Trolls and the Warmongers) is crafting stronger weapons and getting better steel in Blades of Fire. When forging your weapons, you'll be awarded Forge Stars. These Forge Stars contribute to how many times a weapon can be repaired for combat. Learn how to get the most stars possible to fine-tune your weapons.
Gathering Materials For The Forge in Blades of Fire
Before using the Forge of the Gods, you are required to gather materials like iron and coal. Iron is then crafted into four variations of steel: Primordial, Noble, Arcane, and Epic.
As the steel advances in power, your coal consumption increases to reach the correct temperatures required for making more powerful weapons. You'll increase your weapon quality as you explore the world of Blades of Fire and kill more powerful enemies that drop different versions of steel. However, you can still forge a Fine Weapon with more Forge Stars with lower quality materials.
How To Forge Better Weapons In Blades Of Fire
Some weapons are more challenging than others when it comes to achieving 4 or 5-stars in Blades of Fire. You must go to an Anvil and transport to the Forge of the Gods, and make your weapon selection from the unlocked Forge Scrolls.
- You can configure your weapon's properties with materials gathered from the world.
- The Weapon Panel displays the impact the materials have on a weapon's performance from slashing properties, piercing, weight, durability, and stamina cost if it's heavy.
- Once you're ready, you can begin Hammering the Steel on the Forge.
Hammering The Steel
- The goal is to use the limited number of swings you have to hammer and mold the steel to gain as many Forge Stars as possible.
- You can increase or decrease the strength of the swing, but it must match — or, at the very least, stay above — the outline of the weapon.
- You can adjust the angle of the swing left or right.
- You start from one side to the other, but you should aim to get the steel parts to fill the empty gaps.
If you hit below the outline and have more than five hammer swings left, reheat the weapon. This will help reshape the steel and potentially fill the Forge Stars.
- Start hammering and shaping the full side first.
- As you move the hammer closer to the empty parts, change the angle of the hammer to fill gaps with metal to match the shape of the blade and gain more Forge Stars.
The weapons will eventually wear down and break in Blades of Fire's combat. You can repair them at the Anvils with enough materials, but the number of repairs is limited by the number of Forge Stars you earned in crafting the weapon.
