Namor the Sub Mariner is making his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, however, it was revealed that the famous mutant anti-hero almost made his debut in a scrapped post-credits scene for the original movie. Director Ryan Coogler had the idea and was now able to fully realize it in the form of a full fledge film.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame in what Marvel Studios is calling their fourth phase of cinematic films. Black Panther last appeared during the final battle with Thanos in Avengers: Endgame and Wakandan soldiers also made a cameo in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Despite those appearances, fans haven't been back to Wakanda in the current MCU canon for a few years.

Speaking with Empire, Kevin Feige revealed that Namor was planned for many years. "Ryan had a pitch for a tag at the end of Black Panther," Marvel Studios president explained. "The camera would push through the palace in Wakanda, and then we’d see wet footprints leading up to the throne." Only in retrospect is it clear as to why Marvel Studios waited because Wakanda was the setting for the final battle in Avengers: Infinity War, so if the character's footprints were seen walking towards the city, many fans would question why he wouldn't be seen during the battle with Thanos considering the abilities of Namor.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will catch everybody up to speed as to what's been going on following the events of the war with Thanos. One notable event is the passing of T'Challa due to the unfortunate real-life passing of actor Chadwick Boseman. The film serves as an honorable memorial for the widely loved and celebrated actor, as well as a way of passing the torch. Many are divided as to what should be done with the character, but the recent Wakanda Forever trailer gives a glimpse as to what will happen with the mantle in the Black Panther sequel.

Now that Namor is here, Marvel Studios now has multiple characters that are canonically considered mutants. This brings fans closer and closer to the world of the X-Men. Hopefully, fans get to see Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey, and Professor X in the live-action world once again, sooner rather than later.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is slated for a November 11th, 2022, theatrical release.
