Summary

  • Uplink from Infinite Warfare may return in Black Ops 6, according to data mined from the recently leaked beta build.
  • Massive leaks for Black Ops 6 revealed multiplayer features, weapons, and a rumored new Warzone map.

A reliable Call of Duty data miner and leaker has suggested that Uplink, a fan-favorite multiplayer mode last seen in 2016's Infinite Warfare, will be returning in Black Ops 6. The discovery was made after a beta build for Black Ops 6 was leaked online, allowing data miners to uncover a plethora of unrevealed features via in-game files.

Call of Duty suffered its biggest leak to date in August as multiplayer maps, weapons, and gameplay for Black Ops 6 appeared online due to a leaked PS4 beta build. Many of the leaks came from an early version of the game, but data miners have also managed to uncover the first look at what many believe to be a new Call of Duty: Warzone map, which is rumored to be released in 2025.

Following the massive leak, it looked like fans had seen all there was to see, but data miner COD Warfare took to Twitter to reveal that Uplink could be returning in Black Ops 6. The popular multiplayer mode first appeared in 2014's Advanced Warfare and has since gone on to appear in Black Ops 3 and Infinite Warfare. Aside from appearing in Call of Duty: Mobile, the mode has not been seen in a mainline Call of Duty game for eight years now. There were talks of Sledgehammer Games adding Uplink to Call of Duty: WW2, but the studio failed to make the primarily jet pack-based mode fit the theme of WW2.

The official Black Ops 6 open beta release is set for the end of August, but data miners are already uncovering plenty of details about the upcoming shooter thanks to the recently leaked build. According to COD Warfare, in-game files reference Uplink multiple times. The leaker revealed in a follow-up tweet that the following lines of text can be found in Black Ops 6's files:

  • "Upload the satellite before time expires"
  • "Upload the satellite or defend until the time expires"
  • "Sudden Death. Next upload wins."
  • "Upload the satellite to set the Time to Beat"

Uplink originally required players to get ahold of a satellite drone, which usually spawns in the center of the map, and take the drone to the enemy's starting location. Previous entries, such as Advanced Warfare, allowed the objective to be placed high up in the sky, as players could boost into the air using jetpacks. It's currently unclear how the mode will be adapted to fit a Call of Duty title without jetpacks, but there's every possibility that Black Ops 6's new omnidirectional movement could factor in greatly to how the mode plays.

Forced to go rogue. Hunted from within. This is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven, Black Ops 6 is a spy action thriller set in the early 90s, a period of transition and upheaval in global politics, characterized by the end of the Cold War and the rise of the United States as a single superpower. With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.

The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.

In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.

Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
