Summary
- Black Myth: Wukong has numerous intricate armor sets with unique designs and benefits for players to craft.
- The absence of a transmog feature in Black Myth: Wukong is surprising, given the abundance of armor sets available.
- A transmog option would be a logical addition, especially if more armor sets are planned for future updates.
Black Myth: Wukong is one of the most visually stunning games in recent memory, with some painstaking detail put into its environments, textures, boss designs, and character models. This same artistic care has clearly been given to Black Myth: Wukong's various armor sets as well, each one more intricate than the last. In light of that, and the considerable number of armor sets that players can craft in the game, it's interesting why Black Myth: Wukong wouldn't provide players with a transmog option that would allow them to don the look of an armor set without losing the benefits provided by the best armor in the game. As such, Black Myth: Wukong's first post-launch update is clear: it needs a transmog option.
Transmog has become a popular mechanic in games that feature numerous cosmetic pieces, as it allows players to change their look without changing their build. Transmog has been neglected in FromSoftware's Souls games many say Black Myth: Wukong is reminiscent of, simply because of the competitive multiplayer components that those games generally include and the advantage that someone might have over another player if the armor they were wearing wasn't discernible. However, while Black Myth: Wukong may have some Soulslike elements to it, there is no competitive multiplayer function, so there is little reason for the absence of a transmog feature. Furthermore, there are far too many distinct looks in Black Myth: Wukong for transmog to be missing.
Is Black Myth: Wukong a Soulslike?
Black Myth: Wukong seems like it has what it takes to qualify as a true Soulslike game, but its action RPG elements may prevent that from happening.
Why Black Myth: Wukong Needs a Transmog Feature
Black Myth: Wukong Includes Several Different Armor Sets With Distinct Appearances
While Black Myth: Wukong doesn't have as many armor sets as a game like Elden Ring, there are still over ten different sets available for players to craft, each one offering unique gameplay benefits and distinct appearances. Of course, the armor sets players acquire during the early stages of the game are arguably less exquisite than those obtainable in Black Myth: Wukong's late game, but the argument for a transmog option remains solid for those who prefer a simpler, more humble look for the Destined One.
In addition to the decent number of armor sets available in Black Myth: Wukong are various Headgear that sometimes may not match the armor set that players wish to wear. Additionally, putting on a non-set piece of headgear in Black Myth: Wukong can throw off the bonus provided by wearing an entire set, so it's seldom worth it. A transmog option would be the perfect remedy to this problem, as players would be able to wear whichever piece of headgear they wish to wear and Game Science would see its hard work designing these pieces pay off.
A Transmog Option in Black Myth: Wukong Would Make Sense if There Are Plans for More Armor Sets to Be Added
If Game Science plans to add more armor sets to Black Myth: Wukong in future DLC and expansions, a transmog option would make even more sense. The more pieces of gear that are added to the game, the more options players will have for their appearance, and the more sought-after a transmog feature will become. With how much the armor designs stand out in Black Myth: Wukong, it could even justifiably go in the direction that Stellar Blade has gone in offering cosmetic updates to the game regularly, but the ability to transmog those appearances would be a necessity.
Black Myth: Wukong hasn't been out long, and it has already proven to be massively successful. As developer Game Science has confirmed its plans for expansions and DLC contingent upon the game's success, surely a transmog feature could be included among those updates, especially if they include new armor for the Destined One to wear.
