Just a few days after the game's original release, Black Myth: Wukong already has a lightsaber mod. Most games involving complex melee combat eventually receive the lightsaber treatment, but it hasn't taken long for Black Myth: Wukong fans to include the iconic Star Wars weapon in Game Science's new title.
Black Myth: Wukong has already become one of the surprise hits of the year. While gameplay for Game Science's action RPG looked solid, few expected the game to immediately blow up like it has. It immediately became the single-player game with the highest number of concurrent players ever on Steam, and in the days since, Black Myth: Wukong has already sold over 10 million copies globally. Inspired by the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, Black Myth: Wukong lives up to all expectations, delving into a unique world filled with incredible monsters to defeat.
Black Myth: Wukong Wears Its God of War Influences on Its Sleeve
Black Myth: Wukong unashamedly wears its God of War influences on its sleeve in its combat and exploration animations, as well as its gear system.
The mod, simply titled "Double Bladed Lightsaber," can be found on Nexus Mods from user norskpl. It does exactly what it says on the tin, replacing Sun Wukong's weapons in-game with the iconic Star Wars lightsaber. Considering how new the game is, it's impressive how good this looks in-game, and while it doesn't quite make sense lore-wise, it's still awesome to see it in action. There are several different color options, so players aren't locked into just one, either. As of right now, there are two options for the mod. The first replaces all of Sun Wukong's weapons, while the second is a replacement for the Bronzecloud Staff, which is received by purchasing the Deluxe Edition of Black Myth: Wukong.
Black Myth: Wukong Lightsaber Mod Adds Star Wars Crossover
According to the creator, "Double Bladed Lightsaber" isn't currently compatible with the "Enhanced Wukong Visuals" mod, so players must choose between the two at the moment. It's early days, but seeing how big of a modding community Black Myth: Wukong cultivates will be interesting. The biggest modding communities often center around Bethesda games, with a few exceptions capturing the attention of talented modders. Let's see if Black Myth: Wukong can become one of them.
In the wake of Black Myth: Wukong's success, it will be interesting to see how developer Game Science reacts. The studio has yet to confirm any future DLC plans for the game, which is no surprise given how quickly the success has come. Black Myth: Wukong is still unavailable on Xbox consoles, and completing that is likely to remain a priority for the developer.
