Upcoming soulslike action RPG Black Myth: Wukong will not be available for Xbox Series X|S at launch, according to official information recently released about the game. While past releases from developer/publisher Game Science have indicated that Black Myth: Wukong will be coming to Xbox, it looks like the game won't be available on that platform when it hits PlayStation 5 and PC on August 20.
The upcoming game places players in the role of The Destined One, a character based on Monkey King Sun Wukong from Journey to the West, a 16th-century Chinese novel in four parts that has been the basis for many other forms of popular media. Other well-known adaptations of this tale include the Dragon Ball franchise and Netflix's 2023 film The Monkey King.

Since its initial unveiling, fans have expressed high hopes for the upcoming Black Myth: Wukong, which should focus on some key features.
While the upcoming soulslike game had been confirmed for development on Xbox Series X|S at The Game Awards 2023, a much more recent trailer for Black Myth: Wukong revealed at Summer Game Fest omitted the Xbox logo from the end of the trailer, where the announcement date, PlayStation 5 logo, and logos of PC software platforms are displayed. Additionally, a pre-order FAQ on the game's official announcements page clarifies that PlayStation 5 and PC players will be able to experience Black Myth: Wukong on its release date of August 20, but the Xbox Series X|S version is still undergoing optimization and does not currently meet the company standards, so its release will come at a later time. There is currently no set release date for the Xbox version, but Game Science stated it will make an announcement when a release date is available.
Black Myth: Wukong Xbox Pre-Orders Delayed Too
Pre-orders for Black Myth: Wukong are available now on the PlayStation Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store, but not on the Xbox Store. The trailer revealed at Summer Game Fest featured plenty of pre-order bonuses, such as a steel game case, wind chime necklace, 1:1 scale "Constricting Headband," and a 40cm figurine of The Destined One. The game's standard edition sells for $59.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition goes for $69.99, the Physical Deluxe Edition for $169, and the Collector's Edition for $399.
Despite the China-based developer/publisher not having an extensive catalog of games under its belt, Black Myth: Wukong's graphical and stylistic approach has made a big impression on soulslike fans since its initial reveal in 2020. In particular, the game's enemy design has drawn comparisons between Black Myth: Wukong and FromSoftware titles like Elden Ring and the Dark Souls series.
