In Black Myth: Wukong, the
Mad Tiger is an optional boss that is located behind a secret quest, which requires finding and using a key item called the
Old Rattle-Drum. To find the Mad Tiger, you must progress through the second chapter of the game and discover three distinct locations as part of the journey.
You’ll begin the quest to discover the
Mad Tiger by first challenging the
Tiger's Acolyte boss, who drops the
Old Rattle-Drum quest item upon defeat. The Old Rattle-Drum must then be used in said locations to discover the Mad Tiger's lair. The following guide should help you find the Mad Tiger in Black Myth: Wukong, along with some helpful tips on defeating this adversary.
Black Myth: Wukong - What is Might?
For those unsure about what Might is in Black Myth: Wukong, this guide details how it works with transformations and how it can be improved.
Defeat Tiger’s Acolyte & Acquire Old Rattle-Drum
Before you can find the
Mad Tiger in Black Myth: Wukong, your first objective is to find and defeat the
Tiger's Acolyte boss for the
Old Rattle-Drum. This boss can be found on an arched bridge in the Windrest Hamlet of the Yellow Wind Formation.
The
Tiger's Acolyte isn’t a challenging boss to take down and defeating it rewards you with a Spark Point, some Will, and the
Old Rattle-Drum key item. With the Old Rattle-Drum in your possession, you’re now ready to pursue the secret quest to locate the
Mad Tiger.
Use The Old Rattle-Drum At Windseal Gate
Progress through the second chapter to find the Windseal Gate Keeper’s Shrine in the Yellow Wind Formation, or simply fast travel to it if the location's already discovered.
Once you’re at the shrine, head into the ruined village and across the wooden bridge. Take an immediate left under the wooden structures to reach a gray, misty area where you can use the
Old Rattle-Drum to progress the Mad Tiger’s quest. Once you’re done with the brief cinematic, proceed to progress this quest further.
Black Myth: Wukong - Where To Find & Beat Cyan Loong (Chapter 3 Secret Boss)
Cyan Loong is a secret boss in the third chapter of Black Myth: Wukong and here is how players can reach him.
Use The Old Rattle-Drum In Windrest Hamlet
The second location where you must use the
Old Rattle-Drum is in the Windrest Hamlet of the Yellow Wind Formation. From the Windrest Hamlet Keeper's Shrine, head to the ruined village near the Windrest Hamlet Keeper’s Shrine, and once you’re past the large gate, turn left to find yourself in yet another gray, misty area that indicates using the Old Rattle-Drum.
Proceed to play the
Old Rattle-Drum, and prepare for the next leg of your journey, which is in the Sandgate Village.
Use The Old Rattle-Drum In The Valley Of Despair
To use the
Old Rattle-Drum one last time, discover or fast travel to the Valley of Despair Keeper’s Shrine in the Sandgate Village, and head across the wooden bridge and into the village.
Once you’re inside the village, look for an exit in the bordering walls to find yourself in yet another gray, misty area. Using the Old Rattle-Drum here results in the appearance of a child that invites the Destined One to jump into the well to meet an old friend — the friend, of course, is the
Mad Tiger.
Jumping into the well will drop you straight into the Mad Tiger’s lair, consequently a boss battle. So, prepare in advance before taking the plunge.
Black Myth: Wukong - How to Beat the Yellow Wind Sage
The Yellow Wind Sage serves as the final boss of Chapter 2: Yellow Wind Ridge, wielding Samadhi Wind to whip up sandstorms.
How To Beat The Mad Tiger In Black Myth: Wukong
The Mad Tiger is a large, aggressive beast that uses fast melee combat and employs several AOE attacks. Despite its aggressive approach to combat, the Mad Tiger is not a very challenging boss to defeat. However, if you find yourself struggling against this boss, the following tips should come in handy:
- Maintain Distance: The Mad Tiger’s melee attacks have a deceptively long range, and unless you’re confident in your ability to dodge them, it's best to maintain a safe distance to avoid taking unnecessary damage. Maintaining some distance from the boss will also allow you to read the telegraphs and react accordingly.
-
Incorporate Spells: The
Immobilize
spell should help you overcome situations where you’re not in a position to dodge through the boss’s attacks, or unsure of when a combo might end. Immobilizing the Mad Tiger will also allow you to land some powerful combos, resulting in a potential stagger.
- Utilize Transformations: If you’ve unlocked some transformations by defeating other bosses in the game, use those forms and their unique attacks to gain an advantage in the battle.
- Memorize Recurring Patterns: The Mad Tiger has a few attacks, especially the AOE attacks, that are well telegraphed and easy to read. At close range, the boss uses a series of slashing attacks that are also avoidable if you learn how to roll through them, or sprint away just in time.
-
Patience Is Key: One of the easiest ways to defeat the Mad Tiger is to rely on your unlocked abilities and spells, and play around their cooldowns. The
Immobilize
spell, in particular, should give you enough opportunities to execute powerful combos and take away large HP chunks.
It’s also worth noting that the Mad Tiger is an optional boss and doesn’t impact story progression. If you find yourself having a difficult time defeating this adversary, you can always come back later when you’ve upgraded your stats and unlocked powerful skills.
