The Breaking Bad universe now spans two of the most acclaimed TV shows in recent memory, as well as a feature-length film in El Camino. However, that is not enough to stop some fans’ craving for more of Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould's masterful work after Better Call Saul.
Hence why a very talented YouTuber and Better Call Saul fan who goes by the name of Redshibe decided to create a different kind of spin-off for the series, now in the form of a fighting game set in Albuquerque and its surrounding deserts. Granted, there’s not a lot of hard-hitting action in Better Call Saul since the show relied mostly on slow-paced tension, but when it comes it's sure worth it.
In this case, Redshibe decided to adorn his trailer with the soundtrack from one of the hottest fighting games right now, Guilty Gear Strive. This score somehow doesn’t feel out of place with the animation style chosen for the Better Call Saul cast. The roster does lack the Breaking Bad cameos the show saved for its final season, though it’s not hard to imagine that if one of the two games were ever to come to fruition, Better Call Saul would be DLC content or vice versa.
The featured match sees Chuck and Jimmy McGill face off for a short burst, during which the latter knocks out his big brother with a flip phone super. He takes advantage of his brother's weakness to electricity before cutting off to Saul's win screen that ends on a familiar note for fans of the show. The rest of the made-up game’s cast consists of Kim Wexler, Howard Hamlin, Mike Ehrmantraut, Gustavo Fring, and Nacho Varga, meaning the likely overpowered Lalo Salamanca is the only beloved one missing from the roster.
The video's comments section was quickly filled with tons of Better Call Saul jokes and puns, whether it’s asking for Gene Takovic skins to be added or Huell to take up the grappler spot. Better Call Saul ended on an absolute high with a largely praised and fitting finale to Jimmy McGill's story that pleased most fans.
Redshibe's channel is full of similar creations, especially videos featuring Team Fortress 2's Heavy as the protagonist. There are a few shows like Better Call Saul that fans can turn to now that the series is over, but as far as capturing the spirit of Saul Goodman, this fan-made game does a pretty good job.
Better Call Saul is available to stream on Netflix.
