As the successor to the widely-popular Naruto, Boruto has shown the next generation of shinobi and their growth into adults, similar to Naruto and his friends in the original anime. As Boruto's father, Naruto appears frequently in the anime, along with Sasuke and Sakura, among many other major main characters. However, there are quite a few characters missing from the original series, as well.

6 Baki

Jonin of Sunagakure

Image of Baki using Blade of Wind in Naruto.
  • Member of the Suna Council
  • Can utilize abilities such as Wind Release and Blade of Wind
  • Trainer of Gaara

Baki is first seen in Naruto during the Chunin Exams, where he is watching his student, Gaara, in the competition. Baki is a dedicated trainer, and worked alongside Gaara throughout most of his career as a shinobi. Not only does he frequently defend his village with ease, such as during the Kazekage Rescue Mission, but he also frequently keeps in contact with former students.

Baki didn't frequently appear in Naruto, but he had a lot of impact behind the scenes. He regularly supported Gaara, and some of the other students, as well, so a reappearance in Boruto would be greatly appreciated. He cared deeply for his village, and allowing him to make a return to meet the next generation in Boruto would certainly be a crowd-pleaser.

5 Yugao Uzuki

Anbu from Konoha

  • Member of the Anbu, a group of covert operatives
  • Possesses great skill in kenjutsu and strong sensory abilities
  • Was assigned to the Logistical Support and Medical Division

Yugao Uzuki might not have been a major character in Naruto, but her appearances always stole the spotlight. Having become an anbu as a child, her background story is one that is special and unlike any other. She is exceptionally skilled in kenjutsu, and eventually suffers from a tragic loss when her long-time boyfriend, Hayate, dies while tracking down Kabuto.

Naruto: The 24 Most Iconic Female Characters

These iconic female characters from the Naruto franchise are well-known for their impact on Masashi Kishimoto's popular series.

However, later on in Naruto, she is forced to fight with Hayate when he is suddenly resurrected, and his consciousness is controlled by Kabuto. She defeats him in battle, and he is again sealed, leaving Yugao with additional scars. It would have been interesting to see Yugao Uzuki appear in Boruto in the future, with a glimpse into her current life without Hayate, and whether she decides to rejoin the anbu.

4 Yoshino Nara

Wife of Shikaku, Head of the Nara Clan

Image of Yoshino with her son, Shikamaru, in Naruto.
  • Married to Shikaku, mother of Shikamaru
  • Is a chunin-level kunoichi
  • Talented in hand-to-hand combat

As the wife of the head of the Nara Clan, as well as the mother of Shikamaru, many might look at Yoshino Nara as a secondary character without much ability. However, in Naruto, she is actually shown to be a formidable kunoichi, and is especially talented at taijutsu. She even takes down a group of sumo wrestlers with only hand-to-hand combat and some cookware as weapons.

It would have been great to see Yoshino appear again in Boruto, as she was not only a dedicated mother and wife, but she showed impressive strength and care for her village. As Shikamaru frequently appears in the Boruto series, an occasional visit to his mother would have been nice to see to expand further on his background. Despite appearing as an unassuming character, Yoshino Nara actually had the potential to be a significant addition to the story.

3 Ebisu

Tokubetsu Jonin from Konoha

Naruto using his Harem Jutsu on Ebisu
  • Leader of Team Ebisu
  • Extremely-skilled Trainer
  • Can perform Shadow Clone Technique and Fire Release: Fire Dragon Bullet

Ebisu was an especially skilled trainer in the Naruto series, and even had his own team, consisting of Konohamaru Sarutobi, Udon, and Moegi. He had an intense focus on his work as a shinobi, and always seemed truly dedicated to his village and those around him. However, he was given the nickname "secret perv" due to his uncomfortable and inappropriate actions when around women.

From rogue ninjas to terrorists, and even alien beings, the best villains in Naruto are in a league of their own.

Despite some of his (major) flaws, many fans miss having Ebisu in the story, as he is completely missing from the Boruto series. He was a dedicated trainer, having led his students through some intense A-rank missions, including the time when Furido invaded Konoha and his students helped to remove the citizens from the village to safety. Despite not serving as a major character in Naruto, he did frequently appear and always entertained viewers.

2 Haku

Mercenary Ninja

  • Trained under Zabuza Momochi
  • A descendant of the Yuki Clan
  • Possesses many different abilities

Haku comes from a tragic background, having lost his mother to his own father's hands after he discovered she was a wielder of a kekkei genkai. As an orphan, he is discovered by Zabuza Momochi, and is trained to become a shinobi. As Zabuza battles against Kakashi multiple times, Haku is always there to back him up and protect him, and proves to be a formidable foe against Naruto and his friends.

However, Haku eventually dies while protecting Zabuza, despite the latter attempting to show no care or attachment towards Haku. Later on in the story, he is reincarnated by Kabuto Yakushi to fight against the Allied Shinobi Forces, but is eventually returned to the afterlife. If Haku had been able to make an appearance in Boruto, it would have been interesting to see him resurrected, but no longer as a tool for Zabuza.

1 Zabuza Momochi

Demon of the Hidden Mist

Zabuza
  • A missing-nin from the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist
  • Trained Haku
  • Kirigakure's most powerful shinobi

One of the first major enemies of Naruto and his team, Zabuza Momochi was an unforgettable villain with a rich history and impressive abilities. Early on in his career, he slaughtered over 100 Academy students, which gave him the nickname, "Demon of the Hidden Mist". As he often disagreed with others in the village, he attempted to overthrow the Mizukage, but failed. This led him to become a wandering anbu, where he eventually found Haku.

Naruto: 8 Characters Who Ended Up Being Surprisingly Strong

One mustn't judge certain Naruto characters by their appearance. Here are some unlikely examples who turned out to be surprisingly strong.

Zabuza trained Haku to become one of the most powerful anbu, and he attempted to use him as his own personal weapon. Though he was ultimately defeated by Kakashi, it would be interesting to see him return alongside Haku in Boruto, with both of them potentially being resurrected again. Boruto could possibly explore the two characters in a life separate from each other, and how that would alter their paths.
