Vampires have always attracted audiences across various entertainment mediums, and video games are no exception. Without any strict canon to follow, creators can portray vampires in wildly different ways, from intelligent and noble beings to mindless, bloodthirsty monsters — and each interpretation has its devoted fans. No matter the genre (though horror elements are almost always present in some form) or whether players take the role of the vampiric creature itself or a brave vampire hunter, the allure of stepping into a gothic world filled with fantastic creatures and centuries-old conflicts is often irresistible.

Upcoming Vampire Games People Are Excited For

Many of the gaming industry's most highly anticipated releases feature vampires, from Marvel's Blade to The Blood of Dawnwalker.

The past few years have been somewhat disappointing for vampire fans in gaming, with several highly anticipated titles, like Arkane's Redfall and the long-awaited Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, launching to poor results. Luckily, 2026 already looks promising, with several heavy-hitters such as The Duskbloods, Code Vein 2, Vampire Crawlers, and The Blood of the Dawnwalker all shaping up to bring their own unique atmosphere, mood, and appeal. While we wait for these upcoming titles to hopefully shake up the genre, let's look back at some of the best vampire games released over the past decade (2015 and later), highlighting what makes each of them stand out.

Honorable Mentions:

Despite the seemingly popular theme, there aren't nearly as many dedicated vampire games as some players might expect. That's why here are a few more titles from the last ten years that are at least worth mentioning for vampire enthusiasts — even if, for various reasons, they don't quite make the top list:

  • Resident Evil Village (strong vampire-like themes and aesthetics, but despite the obvious similarities, Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters Bela, Cassandra, and Daniela are not technically vampires)
  • Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered
  • Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
  • Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong
  • Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars
  • BloodLust Shadowhunter
  • The Inquisitor
  • Evil West
  • Redfall

7 Code Vein

  • OpenCritic Rating: 74/100
  • Steam User Rating: 87%
  • Average Playtime: 35 Hours

At first glance, Code Vein is a pretty typical soulslike action game, with anime-inspired visuals and over-the-top aesthetics elevated by vampiric themes. When looking closely, though… Well, yeah, that's pretty much it. Despite somewhat lacking in originality, Code Vein more than makes up for it with fluid combat, build variety, tough bosses, and, naturally, unique vampiric abilities to learn and master — all wrapped in a memorable post-apocalyptic, lore-rich world.

While Code Vein wasn't exactly a smashing hit at launch, over the years, its reputation as one of the top recommendations for soulslike fans has secured a sequel. Code Vein 2 is already announced, currently standing among the most anticipated soulslikes of 2026, that's poised to deepen every element of the original, so fingers crossed.

6 El Paso, Elsewhere

Visceral Vampire Action Many Fans Probably Missed

  • OpenCritic Rating: 81/100
  • Steam User Rating: 90%
  • Average Playtime: 10 Hours

Not the most well-known title here, El Paso, Elsewhere definitely deserves more recognition among both vampire and action fans. Serving as a pleasant distraction from the more sprawling vampire games, it's a relatively short but memorable and visceral third-person supernatural shooter with a distinct neo-noir visual style — something reminiscent of an unexpectedly bloody and engaging B-movie that keeps viewers up all night, but with surprisingly deep and melancholic story beats.

Best Hero Vampires In Games, Ranked

Vampires are not always the bad guys in media. In the following video games, these bloodsucking characters are in fact quite heroic.

Players are placed in a reality-shifting motel in Texas, filled to the brim with vampires, fallen angels, werewolves, and other creatures to slay while trying to stay alive. To do this in style, the hunter James wields a deadly arsenal of weapons and tools like holy Molotovs, while also being able to use slow-motion to his advantage during fights. While not too original, El Paso, Elsewhere is a great time for any vampire action lover.

5 Vampyr

Boasting Some Really High Highs Amid Numerous Missteps

  • OpenCritic Rating: 72/100
  • Steam User Rating: 76%
  • Average Playtime: 30 Hours

Granted, not everything worked out in Vampyr, but it's still a very admirable attempt to place players in a conflicted vampire skin and let them experience firsthand the thirst for human blood and the tough everyday struggles that come with it — presuming the wielder has enough strength to keep living like a normal human. The characters, world, and atmosphere of Vampyr are the biggest highlights, as the game is set in the believable semi-open-world environment of 1918 London, torn by the deadly Spanish Flu, and surrounds the players with distinct NPCs, each with their complex lives.

Getting to know them as the medical surgeon Jonathan Reid, while constantly deciding who deserves to die and who to spare, can be as immersive as it gets. On the other hand, the overall slow gameplay and not-so-great combat can feel like a drag to break through when trying to reach Vampyr's better parts.

4 Vampire Survivors

Elegant, Simple, and Addicting Fun

  • OpenCritic Rating: 88/100
  • Steam User Rating: 98%
  • Average Playtime: 30 Hours

As a game to sink hours upon hours into, Vampire Survivors should probably rank higher, but as a strictly vampiric-themed experience, some may find it lacking. This small indie project certainly boasts an engaging gameplay loop and fascinating execution, which allowed it to become an unexpected hit, but it falls short on delivering spectacular vampiric atmosphere, deep narrative, gameplay variety, or memorable characters.

Of course, this doesn't mean Vampire Survivors is any less fun overall. Its simplistic roguelike gameplay instantly hooks with non-stop action and generous variety in characters, builds, and possibilities, while the classic pixelated visuals, countless maps with their own mood, and distinct music make the hunt for thousands of bats and hungry monsters a bloody fun time.

3 Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

An Impossible to Miss Spiritual Successor to Castlevania Games

  • OpenCritic Rating: 83/100
  • Steam User Rating: 93%
  • Average Playtime: 20 Hours

While there hasn't been a proper Castlevania game for over a decade now, fans shouldn't worry, as Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is as close as it gets. The spiritual successor to the iconic Castlevania series, Ritual of the Night is a nostalgia-fueled metroidvania and a must-play for every Symphony of the Night fan. Gorgeous to look at, tough as nails yet approachable and constantly fun — it's the ultimate exploration-focused vampire side-scroller, set in the gothic dark fantasy style of Koji Igarashi.

With its wealth of content and DLC, several distinct playable characters and game modes, fleshed-out combat featuring tons of upgradeable weapons and spells, incredibly atmospheric gothic environments, and an engaging story complete with cutscenes and NPC interactions with full voice-over, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Nigh t is undoubtedly among the best vampire games of the past few years.

2 The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine

Probably the Best Expansion Ever, With a Distinct Vampiric Edge

  • OpenCritic Rating: 92/100
  • Steam User Rating: 97%
  • Average Playtime: 30 Hours

Naturally, The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine is an expansion, but it's so good that it puts the majority of standalone vampire games ever made to shame, and is impossible to ignore on a list like this. Blood & Wine is a mostly standalone story full of exciting twists and new characters never seen in The Witcher 3 before, all set on a separate and beautiful explorable map, packing dozens of hours of adventures, intrigue, action, humor, and meaningful choices.

In The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine, vampires take center stage, as Geralt meets plenty of various Higher Vampire characters while investigating terrifying murders in Beauclair. On his journey, the witcher visits various thematic locations like caves, tombs, and lairs, uses vampiric gear like ancient armors and swords, and hunts down and kills beast-like vampire creatures, including Alps, Bruxae, and Fleders — each with standout designs, strengths, and behaviors. On top of that, Blood and Wine offers some of the most epic and memorable boss fights against powerful vampires.

1 V Rising

Live the Life of a Vampire Building Their Empire

  • OpenCritic Rating: 83/100
  • Steam User Rating: 89%
  • Average Playtime: 65 Hours

Few games can ever hope to match the potential of V Rising for fulfilling one's personal dream of living through vampire fantasy, making Stunlock Studios' hit open-world survival action-RPG an easy pick for the best vampire game of the past decade. From the stunningly beautiful, explorable gothic open world of Vardoran, filled with mythical horrors, eerie villages, and supernatural bosses, to flexible base-building mechanics that let players create their own vampiric castle or lair complete with tons of customization options, and even the potential to build a personal vampire army, V Rising has it all.

With a signature day-and-night gameplay loop, where players must evade the sun during daylight to survive but reign supreme at night, coupled with a thirst-for-blood layer to consider during progression, V Rising is easily the most “vampiric” in its appeal. Survival perfectly blends with action, delivering strategic layers atop deep and exciting combat with a variety of options for weapons, abilities, or sorcery. Not to forget the ability to play in co-op with friends and challenge other vampires in the shared world — V Rising is the ultimate vampire game to keep fans glued to their screens for dozens upon dozens of hours.
