While players make their way through SCUM 1.0 they will be increasing 2 different kinds of stats. These include Attributes and Skills. Players will decide on their initial values during the character creation period but will also be able to increase these values while they play the game.
There are only 4 Attributes, and these will have many overarching effects on player characters. Skills on the other hand, are far more specialized. Players will want to take great care in understanding what each offers and how they will affect players going into the game. As well as knowing what to do to increase them further. SCUM is a hard-as-nails survival game, so don't take these values lightly.

Attribute Values in SCUM 1.0
There are 4 Attributes to decide between in SCUM. These include Strength, Constitution, Dexterity, and Intelligence.
Strength
The Strength Attribute governs the physical aspects of a character and how well they can affect the world around them. Players will want to maintain a healthy diet and perform lots of physical activities to increase this.
- Influences: Carrying capacity, melee damage, burning calories.
- Strength is raised by: E ngaging with heavy loads and getting proper protein intake.
- Strength is lowered by: Having a protein deficiency and loss of muscle mass.
Constitution
The Constitution Attribute can be seen as one’s endurance. Players that raise this will be harder to go down in a fight and take longer to succumb to deadly effects.
- Influences: Health, Stamina, Damage and status resistances, immune system, calorie and hydration efficiency.
- Constitution is raised by: Cardio. This includes walking, running, and swimming.
- Constitution is lowered by: Being stagnant.
Players should always be moving to prevent constitution loss.
Dexterity
This can be seen as the most skill-oriented Attribute. Being able to accomplish things faster and get around the map faster can be one of the most impactful elements in the game.
- Influences: Action speeds. This includes movement speed and action speed. Action speed includes crafting, reloading, and eating.
- Dexterity is raised by: Being in a caloric deficit.
- Dexterity is lowered by: being in a caloric surplus.
Intelligence
Intelligence is the most nuanced of the Attributes. It features methods to temporarily enhance and lower it.
- Influences: Global experience gains for Attributes and Skills and increased max squad size limit.
- Intelligence is raised by: Upgrading BCU through Memory Modules.
- Intelligence is lowered by: Committing suicide.
- Intelligence is temporarily raised by: Consuming Intelligence enhancing ampules.
- Intelligence is temporarily lowered by: Smoking weed and eating hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Keeping these Attriutes lowering factors in mind at all times is a good tip for players to have.

Which Attributes and Skills to Start with in SCUM 1.0
When starting out, players will not have to worry about combat as much as later in the game. In fact, things are far more forgiving thanks to being placed in more beginner-friendly areas. As such, players will want to crank Dexterity to its maximum. This is so players are able to move around and complete tasks as fast as possible.
Puppets can easily kill players, so being able to outrun them while still being able to loot an entire area makes for a great early start.
Players can then focus on a healthy diet to raise up their Strength over the course of their playtime to increase their carrying capacity. Increasing Strength early on can be seen as a waste, as players may find themselves having an overabundance of carrying capacity early on.
Players will also want to put a large focus on Intelligence, as this will affect the overall effectiveness of players, raising their Attribute and Skill values once they find themselves in the game world.
Just like with Strength, players will be raising their constitution rather easily. They just need to never stop moving. Sprint everywhere, and this will seemingly raise up on its own. Players should not take risks early on, and players can gain Strength and Constitution far easier than they can gain Intelligence and Dexterity.
Best Starting Attribute Values For Beginners
- Strength: 1
- Constitution: 1
- Dexterity: 5
- Intelligence: 5
This might look very lopsided, and it is, but players will be gaining the most experience, both in the game and in real life. This allows them to move around the fastest and complete all their tasks in record time. New players will want to keep moving, exploring, and completing their tutorial messages to learn how to do every aspect of the game.
New players will find themselves dying a lot regardless. This is part of the learning curve. Don’t consider your first character as the one you will want to use for the rest of the game. In fact, trying to stick with your first ever character can mean having massive debt to deal with later. Get a feel for the basics and understand how to survive, then create a fresh character for a much better start and no debt to climb out of.
For beginners, invest all your Strength Skill Points into Bow, as it will be the first weapon you get and will learn with. Skilled players will want to go straight for a crossbow with a focus on the Rifles Skill. Invest your Constitution Skill Points into Running. You want a low Constitution as a beginner to proc some of the tutorials early. Max out Thievery and Demolitions. This will help a lot while learning and save resources, and help keep money in players' pockets while doing so. Max out Awareness and Survival. Again, this will help out a lot in learning the game.
Best Starting Attribute Values For Skilled Players
- Strength: 4
- Constitution: 2
- Dexterity: 1
- Intelligence: 5
Strength is hard to build and players will need a lot of it to deal with everything from the get-go. However, having 1 additional point in Constitution can also make the game feel less of a chore thanks to Endurance increasing their Stamina and helping them conserve energy from physical activities.
Max out Rifles to be as deadly as possible with both crossbows and actual rifles, you can invest the rest into Melee Weapons. It won’t reach Medium, but will help in reaching it later on. Put all of your Dexterity Skill Points into Thievery. This will help early on and the more you use it the faster it will grow for whenever you may need it. Get Endurance up to Medium and Running up to Basic. Max out Awareness and Engineering. This lets you notice everything around you, and Engineering will save you resources.
