Stan Lee and Steve Ditko could never have imagined that Spider-Man, as a character, would still be relevant six decades later after his comic book debut in 1962. There have been a myriad of cartoons, movies, and games based on the character over the years, some better and more successful than others.

The 24 Best Spider-Man Video Games Of All Time, Ranked

Marvel's Spider-Man has had his fair share of video game adaptations, with these being the very best titles to feature the Wall-Crawler.

Spider-Man games, in particular, have seen quite a few duds. The first decade or so treated Spider-Man as just another licensed product without much time given to the web-slinging hero. Other developers paid more attention to what makes Spider-Man iconic. These Spider-Man games are some of the best (and weirdest) examples, and they all have a place in gaming culture in 2025.

Marvel’s Spider-Man was the first game developed by Insomniac Games based on the web-slinging superhero. Thankfully, it was not an origin story and instead followed an established Peter Park in his efforts to keep NYC free of crime. The swinging feels natural and the combat is fluid, but the story is what really ties things together.

The fallout between Peter and Dr. Octavius is heartbreaking, even more than the similar story told in the Spider-Man 2 film. Marvel’s Spider-Man is a great place to start for any Spider-Man fan and just a good open-world game in general.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the second Spider-Man game from Insomniac Games, serving as a direct sequel to their first entry. Peter is out on tour in another country, so he gives Miles the keys to the proverbial kingdom of NYC. Miles has his own problems besides living up to one of his idols as a new superhero.

These great Spider-Man video games pay homage to the web-slinger's comic book glory.

Miles is a simple kid who wants to do right by his family, even though there is a divide for some spoiler reasons. This makes Miles’ story just as compelling, even though his rogues gallery isn’t as widely known as Peter’s. Also, Miles’ powers differ slightly from Peter’s, like his electricity and invisibility tricks, which help make the gameplay just a tad fresher.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, so far, is the most recent title in the Insomniac Games series, completing an epic trilogy. This game dives into the darker side of Peter as he’s possessed by the Venom symbiote, thus becoming a more powerful but more sinister version of himself.

Thanks to Miles’ reasoning, he’s able to keep Peter in check, but that’s only the very tip of the narrative iceberg. It’s emotional, but still a fun game first and foremost. Each character can be played at (almost) any time, and they have different gadgets and skill trees to master, too. Without a doubt, this game and the overall trilogy should be on every Spider-Man fan’s shelf.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse gets a lot of credit for being a successful multiverse movie and an introduction to the wider Spider-Man canon for casual fans, but before that, the game Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions pulled off something truly unique. The Amazing Spider-Man was the central hero, but he was assisted by three alternate versions of himself, each of whom was playable in different dimensions.

There was Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Man 2099, and Ultimate Spider-Man. It’s truly a shame that this game is not available to purchase digitally on any platform, and finding physical copies can be tricky. However, the journey to get it is worth it, as it still does some things that even the Insomniac Games entries don’t when it comes to leaning hard into classic Spider-Man lore.

Disney Infinity 2.0 is the second game in the series, and it added Marvel heroes to what started as a strictly Disney-centric game. For those who don’t remember, any figure could be placed into a sandbox world to explore and level up. Play Sets were like small games that featured their own stories, and only a select number of characters could participate.

At launch, Marvel's Spider-Man Play Set was a cute little adventure featuring Spider-Man and Nova in the lead. Beyond those characters/figures, the player could also play as Venom and Green Goblin, along with other non-Spider-Man Marvel characters like Nick Fury. The toys-to-life genre was ahead of its time and burned too brightly, but the fact remains that Disney Infinity 2.0 and this Spider-Man mini-game are well worth looking for. There aren’t many Spider-Man games with true leveling up mechanics and deep skill trees.

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows launched on multiple platforms, and the one that doesn’t get enough credit is the DS version. Developed by Griptonite Games, they handled a lot of licensed properties but tried to make them different, and sometimes better, than their console counterparts. For example, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on Game Boy Color and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on Game Boy Advance were both turn-based RPGs instead of open-world action/puzzle games.

Superhero games have come a long way over the last two decades, but the 2000s still featured some heavy-hitters that launched fan-favorite franchises.

As for Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, their idea was to make it into a 2D Metroidvania, a genre Spider-Man isn’t too familiar with. It’s not the best Metroidvania by any stretch, but it is still a good one, with responsive controls and interesting powers. Since Metroidvanias are bigger now than they were in 2008, along with Spider-Man's popularity as a property, fans of each may want to know this game exists in 2025.

Spider-Man: The Video Game was released in September 1991 in arcades, and there it has remained. It’s the case for many arcade games, sadly, so playing it today (at least, in an official capacity) will be tricky. However, it’s an interesting gem of a Marvel game developed and published by Sega.

In this brawler, Spider-Man is assisted by Hawkeye, Black Cat, and Sub-Mariner, with each filling out the roster of four playable characters. It’s one of the strangest Spider-Man-related teams around, save for Black Cat. 2025 Spider-Man fans love unique crossovers, and it doesn’t get any weirder than this. The brawler action may not be as fluid as modern games, but Spider-Man: The Video Game will definitely prove to be a good multiplayer session or two if players figure out how to get it running.
