Power Rangers is one of the longest running sci-fi action series still running today. Power Rangers is based on the Japanese franchise, Super Sentai, but has largely taken on its own identity. Each iteration of Power Rangers is typically led by a single Red Ranger who calls the shots and leads the team into battle. As the series has gone on, some Red Rangers are much better than others.
Given their wide variety of skills and abilities the rangers have possessed throughout the years, it's difficult to gauge the rangers based on strength. A lot of the Rangers don't even fight the same type of enemies. The Megaforce Red Ranger is certainly capable, but he likely couldn't handle anything the classic rangers went through. He does a great job defending the earth, but he's perfect proof not every Red Ranger is created equal.
8 Power Rangers Series With The Best Fights, Ranked
These Power Rangers series features some of the best fight cinematography the iconic franchise offers.
10 The Megaforce Red Ranger Has Classic Powers at His Fingertips
Power Rangers: Megaforce
Troy Burrows, the Megforce Red Ranger, is one of the first teenagers to take on the role in the 2010s reboot. Sadly, his character doesn't really do much aside from being the Red Ranger. He is simply a basic copy of the original Red Ranger with less than half the personality.
Burrows might have the power to call upon previous rangers, but that isn't enough to make up for his lack of character development. Being the Red Ranger is cool, but the series has proven time and time again, who's using the morpher matters a lot. If someone with more potential were allowed the opportunity, Power Rangers Megaforce could have been vastly more successful.
9 Ninja Storm's Red Ranger Uses the Element of Air
Power Rangers: Ninja Storm
Ninja Storm's Red Ranger, Shane Clarke, is certainly powerful, but he is otherwise unremarkable. He might have the element of air at his fingertips, but he isn't nearly as impressive as a certain Airbender from the beloved Nickelodeon cartoon. Clarke's time as Red Ranger remains largely forgotten, buried by the actor's controversial past.
Marvel Rivals 40K Tournament Host Comments on the Kingsman Drama
Marvel Rivals tournament organizer BasimZB shares his thoughts on the controversy with Kingsman265 that happened during the Deadpool Creators Cup.
Clarke performed well at many of the tasks of a Red Ranger, but he simply didn't perform as well as some of his Red Ranger relatives. The character's design is cool, but ultimately forgettable in the grand scheme of things. The Ninja Storm leader also doesn't get nearly the amount of gadgets and power-ups as some of his more popular Red Ranger rivals.
8 Beast Morphers' Red Ranger Proves Power Rangers Is Back to Business
Power Rangers: Beast Morphers
Power Rangers Beast Morphers is the perfect sign that the franchise is back on track and the series' Red Ranger is reflective of that. Devon Daniels does a lot of good as the Red Ranger, he just doesn't do anything great. His design is also the least Power Rangers-eque of any leader before him.
Aside from the suit, which looks like it belongs in No Man's Sky, Daniels' just doesn't have the same feats as his previous rangers. He is a brown belt in karate, but other rangers have more martial arts mastery. Essentially, anything Devon Daniels can do, another Red Ranger can do much better. Sadly, he wasn't given enough time to prove himself before the series transitioned to another iteration of teenagers with attitude.
7 Connor McKnight Gets His Spotlight Stolen From Tommy Oliver
Power Rangers: Dino Thunder
Connor McKnight is unfortunately forgettable as a Red Ranger, but that has more to do with his fellow rangers than anything. Power Rangers Dino Thunder marks one of the last returns of Tommy Oliver, so it makes sense McKnight was overshadowed. Ultimately, Dino Thunder felt more like a reskin of the original series than anything else.
10 Strongest Villains In Power Rangers History, Ranked
The Power Rangers have faced some fearsome foes over the course of the franchise, but these are by far the most formidable.
McKnigh'ts Red Ranger can take advantage of some seriously cool prehistoric Zords, but he's far from the only one with special Megazord capabilities. If McKnight got more time to shine, he might be higher on the list, but who can compete with Tommy Oliver? McKnight did a great job, but Tommy Oliver takes the spotlight in any Power Rangers lineup.
6 RPM Red Ranger is One of the Most Popular Rangers Ever
Power Rangers: RPM
RPM Red Ranger is easily one of the most popular iterations of the character. When it comes to speed, he definitely has most of the other rangers beaten, and his design is incredibly cool. RPM also gives its Rangers several on-brand gadgets they seamlessly run through during their battles.
Scott Truman remains one of the most iconic versions of the character, for good reason. He is the template that all Red Rangers should serve to follow, but he is far from the best. There are plenty of Rangers before and after Truman who pass him in both popularity and straight-up skill.
5 Samurai Red Ranger Is the Best Modern Power Rangers Has to Offer
Power Rangers: Samurai
Jayden Shiba is one of the most interesting Power Rangers of all time. He wasn't meant for the role, but once it fell to him, he began taking it incredibly seriously. He is profoundly dedicated to his role as a ranger and holds his duty above all else. Jayden also receives some incredible power-ups throughout the Samurai series, boosted by the series' increase in budget.
As the Samuria Red Ranger, Shiba packs some serious firepower, and has the potential to be the best swordsman out of the rangers. He also has access to some incredible Zords, like the Shark Zord. Either way, in an all-out ranger brawl, Jayden certainly isn't going out anywhere close to first.
4 Jungle Fury Red Ranger Starts the Series With Serious Martial Arts Skills
Power Rangers: Jungle Fury
Jungle Fury Red Ranger might have the greatest martial arts prowess of any Red Ranger. He has mastered several specific animal styles and uses them to boost his already impressive fighting abilities. Using RJ's teachings, Casey managed to truly harness his abilities and become an unstoppable fighting machine. He might be relatively inexperienced at the start, but that doesn't stop him from getting the upper-hand.
Not only does Casey have competent martial arts techniques, he also has some incredible gear at his disposal. He has several different weapons, and some cool transportation beyond just a Zord. Casey isn't the strongest Red Ranger, but based on design alone, he's one of the coolest.
3 Mystic Force Red Ranger Comes From a Powerful Magical Bloodline
Power Rangers: Mystic Force
Nick Russell has something that many Red Rangers don't have access to; straight-up magic. He was born as the mystical being Bowen in a world far from the normal earth. Most of his adventures are spent saving the more mystical Earth from Octomus the Master. He is another incredibly competent swordfighter and has one of the coolest power-ups out of any ranger.
Red Dragon Fire Ranger is one of the coolest designs in the entire franchise. It is the perfect mix of slightly silly and extremely cool that Power Rangers has come to foster. Not only that, Bowen uses the power to defeat a literal eldritch being. That's more than most Red Rangers do in their run, and then some.
2 SPD Red Ranger Overcomes His Origins To Become the Best
Power Rangers: S.P.D.
The SPD Red Ranger is the perfect example of a hero rising to the occasion. His origins are far from what could be expected from what is essentially a space-faring police officer, but he more than earns his role. He ends the series far from the petty thief that he was in the pilot.
Guillermo del Toro Is Desperate To Direct 1 Horror Movie That Will Never Get Made
Guillermo del Toro desperately wants to create a film version of H.P. Lovecraft's At The Mountains of Madness, but Hollywood isn't on board.
While some consider the SPD costumes too far from the Power Ranger's silly scale, a good group of fans feels the costumes are wonderfully nostalgic. Based on the threats he had to fight alone, Jack Landors is one of the best Red Rangers in the entire franchise.
1 The Mighty Morphin' Red Ranger is the Most Iconic For a Reason
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
When it comes to Power Rangers, there is no better Red Ranger than the original. Jason Lee Scott represents what many consider to be the pinnacle of Red Rangers and created the template for many years to come. Scott's time as the Red Ranger still holds up today, and he stands as a reminder that not all older television is as dated as it might seem. Sure, the effects are absolutely corny, but with an extended budget, the classic series could've been a complete masterpiece.
Since Jason Scott is the Ranger that most others define themselves by, it would make sense that he be at the top of the list. While he might not give himself the credit he deserves, he is easily one of the most competent Rangers in the history of the franchise. Without him, Earth might've been destroyed several times over.
