Summary
- Hades does a great job of maintaining balance, not letting players feel overpowered in a roguelike setting.
- Carrion offers a twisted and bloody experience, allowing players to feel powerful as they grow in strength.
- Final Fantasy 16 and God of War Ragnarok provide players with the chance to truly feel like powerful entities through compelling gameplay.
Feeling like a god in a game isn’t as simple as just playing a literal god. For example, Hades is a great game featuring a cavalcade of gods that the protagonist, Zagreus, fights or befriends. Even though Zagreus is a god himself, Hades is a roguelike, meaning death is inevitable. Even when players get some permanent upgrades for Zagreus and have some decent runs, the game never makes players feel overpowered, which is the point of a roguelike.

These games make players feel all-powerful as they blast their way through waves of enemies.
So, what PS5 games make players feel like they are a god, whether they are literally playing as one or not? Let’s look at some obvious and not-so-obvious examples to give players a wide array of genres to tap into. These will be ranked based on how powerful players can feel.

Carrion is a little indie game that stars a mutant blob that breaks out of captivity. It’s not a feel-good escape story akin to a Pixar film, as this mutant blob is angry. Players will stick to walls, ceilings, and grates to eat and dismember enemies along the way.
Players can think of it like a more twisted version of Katamari Damacy with a lot more blood. As they grow, so too does their power, and if the end-game doesn’t give players a god-fulfilling fantasy, then nothing will because things heat up.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is an action-adventure puzzle game that is like a cross between The Legend of Zelda and Pikmin. The heroine, Kena, can control little black monsters called Rot. She can command them like Pikmin to go through holes or grab objects to solve puzzles.
It’s not a mind-blowing concept, but Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a visual treat, and the ability to control any type of critter can give players those godlike vibes.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is the ultimate game for Dragon Ball Z fans as it goes through most of the biggest arcs from the anime. This includes facing the Saiyans on Earth, Frieza on Namek, the Cell Games, and so much more.
Goku is one of the main playable characters who has powers equivalent to a god, and he may as well be the central God of all anime, as many series have learned from Dragon Ball Z. Players can relive their favorite moments with Goku and the rest of Earth’s defenders through bombastic battles.
5 Marvel’s Avengers

Marvel comics are modern equivalents to ancient mythologies, as they both have deep lore and powerful characters tied to them. Marvel’s Avengers is one of the best ways to experience the might of the Avengers, as all playable characters feel unreal.
Even the toughest set of armor or the best high-tech gear cannot stand up against a punch from The Hulk or a lightning blast from Thor. Players are essentially gods in this game, as the level of challenge is minimal, but this can add to the power fantasy.
4 Dynasty Warriors: Origins
A One-Man Army
Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Most of the Dynasty Warriors games are great examples of one-man armies, as players can literally mow down thousands of enemy troops with just one character on each mission. The latest entry, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, focuses solely on one character, The Wanderer, although there are guest characters players can use for a limited time on some missions.
This reformatting will help players connect better with their character by upgrading them with gear, weapons, and hard-earned level-ups. That said, even from minute one, players will feel the strength of The Wanderer.
3 Final Fantasy 16

Gods have played a large role in many Final Fantasy games, but only one entry will make players feel truly like an entity from another world: Final Fantasy 16. Clive has the potential to be the strongest Dominant in the whole game, as he can absorb powers from Eikons.
7 Best RPGs For Feeling Like A God, Ranked
Role-playing games typically avoid overpowered playable characters, but these RPGs allow you to become a god-like being.
Eikons are equivalent to Summons, while Dominants are characters who can wield them. Clive can learn fire abilities through Ifrit, or powerful, earth-shattering moves with Titan. Plus, he can turn into Ifrit for some epic boss battles that will really give players a trip.
2 God Of War Ragnarok
Kratos Collides With Norse Mythology
God of War Ragnarok
- Released
- November 9, 2022
- ESRB
- M For Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language
- Developer(s)
- Santa Monica Studio
- Platform(s)
- PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5

God of War has been a big series for Sony since the PS2. Kratos became the Greek God of War after vanquishing Ares in the first game. This led him down a dark path that the PS4 and PS5 duology contend with.
While Kratos is still a force to be reckoned with in God of War Ragnarok, he has a softer side, as he struggles with raising a child. It’s just as good a game about fathers as it is about gods and the many flaws they have.
1 Minecraft

The ultimate god-tier game on any platform has to be Minecraft. Players will start in a random, seeded world and are then tasked with exploring and building. It literally has a mechanic called God Mode if players want to focus on creativity instead of worrying about resource management and enemies attacking.
It’s not so much a game as it is a platform unto itself with talented creators doing some wild things with the base game, like adding Pokemon-catching mechanics. It’s one of the most innovative games, certainly of the last decade.
