8-Bit Adventures 2, one of the highest-rated games released in 2023, is finally making its way to consoles next month. The sequel to 8-Bit Adventures: The Forgotten Journey, 8-Bit Adventures 2 hit Steam in January of last year. A throwback to classic JRPGs, 8-Bit Adventures 2 was met with immediate enthusiasm from both professional critics and genre fans.

At the time of this writing, 8-Bit Adventures 2 enjoys a "Very Positive" overall rating from Steam users, plus an impressive 91 critic rating. The catch is that only five professional reviews have been counted for 8-Bit Adventures 2 so far, which certainly leaves the door open for the game's score to fluctuate. Still, the fact that the game managed to get a 91 rating after five reviews is impressive, and it is still one of the highest-rated games released in 2023 regardless.

Since its launch in January 2023, 8-Bit Adventures 2 has been exclusive to PC, but that will change in the very near future. A release date trailer has confirmed that 8-Bit Adventures 2 is coming to consoles on October 16, giving console gamers the chance to see what all the fuss is about. At launch, 8-Bit Adventures 2 will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and the Nintendo Switch, so console gamers will be able to check it out regardless of their platform of choice.

8-Bit Adventures 2 is a throwback to the classic JRPGs from the NES, but with "none of the inconvenience," according to its Steam page. The game's story is said to take 30 to 40 hours to complete, with players treated to "constant variety," an "expansive world map," the typical JRPG airship, side-quests, and strategic turn-based fights.

Notably, 8-Bit Adventures 2 promises that its adventure "never bogs the player down" with filler content or things like "random battles and mandatory grinding." Those issues plague many old-school JRPGs and turn a lot of people off from the idea of playing them. It's why Square Enix has added cheats to classic Final Fantasy games when bringing them to modern consoles, as it gives players that don't have patience for these old-school gimmicks the chance to better enjoy the games. 8-Bit Adventures 2 sounds like it's perfectly paced, and so anyone that considers themselves a fan of classic JRPGs should definitely be marking their calendars for October 16 - assuming they haven't played the game already on PC, that is.
