Love it or hate it, My Little Pony is a fixture in today's cultural landscape, thanks to creator Lauren Faust’s My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Running from 2010 to 2020, the show featured the adventures of the Mane Six in the magical land of Equestria as they learned all about friendship.
The popular cartoon also birthed a surprising subset of male My Little Pony fans known as Bronies. With this success comes a series of mods. Some of these are strictly cosmetic but offer a magical twist on players’ favorite games. Here are six games with their own My Little Pony mods.
6 Pony Dragon Mod (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)
One of the most iconic moments of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim comes when the soon-to-be Dragonborn is about to be executed and the game’s first dragon swoops down and brings total chaos. Now, imagine that dragon being brightly colored, having large adorable eyes and a mane, and instead of hearing a ferocious roar, the pony shouts, “Play!”
Modder zdzichorowerzysta brings that vision to life by putting pony skins over Skyrim’s dragons. Having a giant Fluttershy smash her head into a tower and breathe fire is actually far more terrifying than it sounds. The mod was made for the initial game release, but it also works on the Anniversary Edition of Skyrim.
5 Starswirl Valley (Stardew Valley)
Stardew Valley is already a cheery game thanks to its adorable visual style and characters. Players live a simple life working the farm that they inherited from their grandfather, raising various crops and livestock. They can also interact with the local villagers, participate in town events, and uncover the game’s hidden lore.
Modder GraytteHorsee on nexusmods.com thought Stardew Valley needed to be more equestrian. To that end, Starswirl Valley replaces all of the villagers with colorful ponies. It is like being a part of Equestria itself. Even the toughest of the tough have to admit how adorable it is.
4 Mine Little Pony (Minecraft)
Minecraft is already a wondrous world that's full to the brim with adventure. Players can take on a survival challenge or just relax by creating whatever they can imagine. Then the Mine Little Pony team looked at the game and decided it needed more ponies.
This mod allows players to take on the form of hoofed creatures, ponifies some of the game’s mobs, and adds a pastel resource pack. The animations of the ponies flying through the air are also adorable. It is a whimsical addition to an already whimsical game.
3 Vesemir the Loyal Brony (The Witcher 3)
Vesemir and Geralt of Rivia are the foster parents of Ciri in The Witcher 3. They would do anything for their little girl as they teach her to control her unique powers. Vesemir may just be the most devoted foster father one could imagine already, but with the help of a custom mod, players can turn him into a Brony as well.
Nexus Mods’ MistMods adorns Vesemir with a pony tattoo upon his forehead. Perhaps some form of My Little Pony exists in the world of The Witcher. Vesemir may have trained Ciri on how to safely use her magic, but perhaps she taught him that friendship is magic in the process.
2 SCP Containment is Magic (SCP: Containment Breach)
SCP: Containment Breach is an immense free horror game with expansive lore consisting of strange creatures and paranormal entities. Now, with the help of a custom My Little Pony mod, those entities have hooves.
SCP: Containment is Magic from Pony Dragon on Gamejolt.com puts a new spin on the game with ponified entities and NPCs. The elevator music is even a rendition of the My Little Pony theme. For those who think that this will not be scary at all, Pinkie Pie’s laughter echoing through dark halls can be unsettling, and a blood-splattered Fluttershy is something that looks full on yandere.
1 Ponies Ascendant (0 A.D.)
Rome was a proud civilization that served as a hub of politics and culture, spanning much of Europe and reaching the British mainland. With the help of a special My Little Pony mod, it can also be the home of several adorable ponies.
Ponies Ascendant is for the free, open-source strategy game 0 A.D., a real-time strategy game based on antiquity. This mod swaps the game’s native factions with ponies, pegasi, and unicorns. The game’s resource gathering is already incredibly moreish, and now players will also find themselves fawning over how cute the soldiers are. They can also have the grand conflicts of their Equestrian dreams.
