The games out of the bunch that are open-world are by far some of the best, as they don't only cover popular franchises such as the Lord of the Rings or Star Wars, but they also allow players to explore the worlds these franchises are set in that are now made entirely out of Lego. With this in mind, these are by far the best open-world Lego games.

9 Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the first ever open-world Star Wars game to be created by Lego. While players may not be able to freely explore wherever they wish to go during the main story of the game, once this aspect has been completed, players can then travel to any of the planets visited during their playthrough to freely explore the open world.

Players are able to experience not only the story of The Force Awakens but even the world around it differently as they build structures, find collectibles, and take part in epic Lego battles among the stars.

8 Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

Metascore: 79

In this Lego title, the developers, TT Games, put a heavier focus on players exploring Gotham City as Batman, Robin, and plenty of other DC superheroes to put a stop to the devious plans of the supervillains Lex Luther and the Joker.

With how large Gotham City is, players will have to use the abilities of the various heroes to traverse the landscape, like flying as Superman or running at unknown speeds like the Flash. Thankfully, those who don't have such useful powers, such as Batman, can still make an entrance, as players can unlock the Batmobile or even the Batboat.

7 Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4

Players have yearned for an experience that has allowed them to explore Hogwarts freely and before the creation of Hogwarts Legacy, one of the best ways to experience the world of Harry Potter was through Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4.

They can freely explore countless locations that not only include the main castle of Hogwarts, but also the surrounding area, such as the Forbidden Forest, the village of Hogsmeade, and so much more. Unlike many other Lego games mentioned so far , Lego Marvel Super Heroes contains a completely original Lego story that sees the player take control of their favorite Marvel Super Heroes – and Villains – in an attempt to stop Loki from creating a powerful weapon that could destroy the world.

Besides this all-new story, players are free to explore the entirety of Lego Manhattan as they visit key locations from the Marvel films and comics, such as Stark Tower, a Hydra Base, and much more. With the ability to play as one of many different characters, there are a variety of ways to get around Manhattan, from slinging webs to impressive climbing.

4 Lego Dimensions

Lego Dimensions is an epic platform cross-over of multiple franchises that once had their own Lego game, and beyond. Besides having its own incredible original story, plenty of collectibles will allow players to have adventures that see the likes of Batman joining forces with Harry Potter.

Outside this main story, players can also unlock Adventure Worlds. These worlds can be explored as any of the characters a player has uncooked and has plenty of their own challenges and quests for players to get stuck into. Every completed quest or challenge will earn the player Gold Bricks that can be used elsewhere.

3 Lego The Lord Of The Rings

Unsurprisingly, another well-loved franchise that was transformed into a Lego video game that players equally loved was The Lord of the Rings. Following the storyline of the three Lord of the Rings films in a comedic way, players are sent on an epic quest to take the one ring to be destroyed.

Not all the greatest open-world Lego games to be created include another franchise that has sold incredibly well. For example, Lego City Undercover is another highly praised Lego video game title that players enjoyed for focusing on the city-themed building sets of the Lego franchise.

In this game, players follow the life of Police Officer Chase McCain as he returns to Lego City, pursuing crime around every corner. Lego City Undercover has 20 unique districts for players to take a walk around, as well as various vehicles to ride fast and wild around the streets.

1 Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Out of all the available Lego open-world titles, unsurprisingly, one of the best has to be Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Like Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, players are given plenty of planets to explore while also giving them various characters to play too, from across the entire saga.

This means characters that may have never met will now be able to work together to complete challenges and quests while adventuring in co-op. Revisiting these old levels to find secrets as a character that has never been there before is not only entertaining but also allows players to discover even more in this humongous open-world sandbox.
