Roguelikes are a very popular genre in the indie community, so a game like Noita is a must-have for indie game fans who love witches. Players control a witch navigating a procedurally-generated 2D world, learning spells to fight off creatures from Finnish mythology.

Like many roguelikes, Noita is an addicting game to play, as gamers will easily get sucked into trying to make it through each of the titles's unique biomes. However, it'll be quite a challenge to survive with the permadeath mechanic, so this is a player's best option to feel like a real witch pulling off some magic to complete it.

The Good path makes Yaga much weaker than the Evil path

Platform

PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S

Developer

The Parasight

Release Date

December 15, 2022

Genre

Role-playing game

It's refreshing to play an indie video game that doesn't try to make witches endearing and cute. Blacktail is a riveting experience where players control the reincarnation of Baba Yaga, who is exiled from her village and needs to hunt down evil spirits to figure out her true nature. The combat is easily one of the best parts of Blacktail. Players combine archery, spellcasting, and a host of other systems to take down the evil enemies standing in their way.

The title also has a pretty well-implemented morality system, even if it may not be anything new. Players have no reason to walk down an evil path unless they want to buy into the legend of the Baba Yaga, but this inclusion will still be appreciated by most players.
