2025 marks the fifth year of the PS5 era in full swing after its debut in 2020. These consoles were hard to find at first, but now it’s pretty easy to buy a PS5, so long as one can stomach the price jump. PlayStation fans know that the PS6 is probably around the corner, as most consoles tend to have a six- to seven-year lifespan.
PS5 Games That Start Strong & Just Keep Getting Better
From platformers to RPGs, as soon as players leave the title screen, they are in for a world of wonder in these PS5 adventures.
So, what has the PS5 offered to its fans over these five years in terms of showcasing exclusives? Games that have not appeared on the PS4 or PC in any capacity. Some of the best PS5 games have gone multi-platform, like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Let's look at which exclusives have actually remained exclusive so far.
Ghost Of Yotei
So Far, So Good
Ghost of Yotei
- Released
- October 2, 2025
- ESRB
- Mature 17+ / Blood and Gore, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, Language, Partial Nudity, Use of Alcohol
- Genre(s)
- Action, Adventure, Open-World
Ghost of Tsushima began as a PS4 exclusive, but it later received an Enhanced Edition that was also released on PC. So far, its sequel, Ghost of Yotei, is a PS5 exclusive and is shaping up to be one of the best-selling games of 2025. It’s easy to see why, as it’s yet another phenomenal open-world game set in the feudal era of Japan.
Atsu is a new main character, and the game itself is set hundreds of years after the original. As such, players don’t need to play Ghost of Tsushima first to check it out. If they did play the original, then they’ll know that this sequel is more of the same, but better. With tons more weapons to collect, beautiful graphics, and quick load times to get straight into the action, it may wind up being one of the best PS5 games of all time.
Astro Bot
Outclassing Mario
Astro Bot
- Released
- September 6, 2024
- ESRB
- E10+ For Everyone 10+ Due To Crude Humor, Fantasy Violence
- Genre(s)
- Platformer
There are two games starring the lovable Astro Bots that are exclusive to the PS5. Astro's Playroom was a free tech demo that came packaged at launch, and it almost acted like a blueprint for Astro Bot four years later. While it is very short, players should still check out Astro's Playroom. The real superstar game, though, is Astro Bot, which blew everyone out of the water when it launched in 2024.
Best PS5 Games For Feeling Like A God
Are there games beyond Kratos’ reach on the PS5 that would make even him quiver? These titles that make the player god-like hit pretty close.
It was a celebration of everything PlayStation, from various console components on display to iconic video game heroes appearing as cute little robots. The PlayStation worship was only a small fraction of why players enjoyed the game, though. The platforming is imaginative from level to level, hitting that perfect difficulty barrier between too easy and too hard. It’s hard to imagine such a dedicated fan letter ever appearing on another platform.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach
Delivering PS5-Tier Quality
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
- Released
- June 26, 2025
Death Stranding started as a PS4 exclusive before being ported to platforms like PC and Xbox consoles. The same fate may await Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, but for now, this is another great PS5 exclusive released in 2025. It continues Sam's journey from the first game, except this time around, his mission is to deliver packages and link up bunkers across Mexico and Australia.
With a backpack full of packages, players traverse deserts, mountains, and rushing rivers. They're given more ways to progress through these hazards faster than in the first game, too. The quality of life improvements make the gameplay less frustrating, and it's more fun to discover new gameplay elements. One fantastic late-game example is a coffin that can be used as a surfboard.
Demon’s Souls
From The PS3 To The PS5
Demon's Souls
- Released
- November 12, 2020
- ESRB
- M for Mature: Blood and Gore, Violence
- Genre(s)
- RPG
Demon’s Souls was a PS3 exclusive for over a decade until it was remade on the PS5. This was THE launch game to pick up, and it was everything that fans hoped it would be.
While most of the game remains untouched, except for the graphics, there were a few tweaks made to the gameplay to make it feel smoother. It’s still one of the hardest Soulslike games FromSoftware has ever made, but that’s what makes it so engaging for a lot of hardcore fans. Bloodborne is another FromSoftware Soulslike game that is trapped on one system, the PS4, even though it is playable through backwards compatibility on the PS5. PC fans would assuredly love to see the Demon’s Souls remake and Bloodborne appear on digital platforms like Steam sooner rather than later.
Destruction AllStars
A Twisted Reboot
Destruction AllStars
- Released
- February 2, 2021
- ESRB
- T For Teen due to Fantasy, Violence
- Genre(s)
- Racing
Destruction AllStars was released not long after the PS5 launched, acting as a sort of spiritual successor to Twisted Metal. It's also a car combat game, but with a more Fortnite-like design. Characters are more colorful and poppy, and the violence is toned down.
8 Brilliant PS5 Games That Will Probably Never Receive Sequels
Will these PS5 games go the way of Beyond the Beyond, Rogue Galaxy, or Puppeteer?
Single-player and multiplayer missions are set in arenas instead of big open cities. It may not be the Twisted Metal game that many PlayStation fans want, but it's a serviceable spiritual successor nonetheless. Unfortunately, the online servers were shut down in 2024, but there are still plenty of reasons to play the single-player mode. This also probably means it’s never going to get a port to other systems.
R-Type Final 3 Evolved
A Blast From The Past
R-Type Final 3 Evolved
- Released
- April 25, 2023
- Platform(s)
- PlayStation 5
Shoot ‘em ups, or SHMUPs, were a hugely popular genre in the 80s, 90s, and even into the early 2000s. R-Type was one of the bigger SHMUP franchises, and while the series today is not what it was back in the arcade era, it continues to receive updates. R-Type Final 3 Evolved is one of the latest releases, and it’s completely exclusive to the PS5.
It probably flew under the radar when it was released in 2023, as it’s very hard for smaller games to get noticed in the current market. That said, R-Type Final 3 Evolved is a hidden gem for SHMUP fans to discover. The action is bombastic, the controls are tight, and the upgrades make it one of the more accessible SHMUPs in years, making it a great intro to the genre.
