One of the major things that sets video games apart from other mediums is the agency that the audience has. Instead of being consumed passively, like films, players must actively engage with and in some ways alter the game state to get anything out of a video game. Sometimes 'altering' the game state is as simple as shooting at something or wandering around, but many games let players change parties or change the direction of the entire story.

7 JRPGs That Make Great Use Of Non-Damage Support Classes And Spells

Support and utility are key in JRPGs, and the following games do a fantastic job of incorporating support classes and spells in gameplay.

While not the most common game trope, there's something immensely cathartic about watching two disparate things - with player input - come together to make something new. Whether this is ingredients for a potion or the fusing of two entities into one or any other kind of wacky chemistry of video game elements really just depends on the player. So, whether innovating on the tradition of monster-collector games or taking a spin on an entirely new genre, all these games offer the elements of fusing creatures or people together to unleash every gamer's inner mad scientist.

8 Siralim Ultimate

A Hardcore Creature-Collector Roguelike

Few games can claim to be as cathartic to play or as mechanically complex as Siralim Ultimate. This game has an exceptional creature-collecting mechanic and enough depth to match some of the best roguelike games ever made.

Part of this game's depth is the spell gem and item system (think giving Pokemon four items instead of one, and as many moves as they can handle instead of four) and a great fusion system that not only empowers the resultant creature but lets the player get some say in their appearance.

Standing as one of the best Dragon Ball games, this 3DS gem was a fantastic incorporation of an iconic concept from the manga and anime that allowed players to fuse both their own creation and many classic characters together into some truly spectacular forms.

Some absolute dream fusions that have been the talk of fan speculation and theories were implemented, as well as some utterly cursed character combinations, and many fusion trees to follow with generic martial artists.

With a more adult storyline than Pokemon titles but an absolutely delightful emulation of classic Pokemon designs, Monster Crown is an excellent indie title that brings many much-demanded changes to the Pokemon formula.

Creatures can be fused, with many having unique models after fusion that make them all the more desirable to collect. This game hosts an addictive system of building up powerful creatures that are equal parts nostalgic and distinct from its inspiration.

As one of the hardest Shin Megami Tensei titles, fusion within the world of shadows is a necessity to get by in this game. There's nothing quite as cathartic as fusing a fearsome boss together from disparate creatures.

Some of the strongest creatures in the game are only available through fusion, such as the fantastic Hydra, an early game boss that can still have utility in the late game, or the iconic antagonists of Vengeance, the Qadistu.

In a similar vein to the previous entry, the fusi of personas in this game takes center stage as an incredibly important mechanic and one that is vital to progression in Persona 5. Fusing personas leads to some incredibly powerful abilities.

Persona 5 is a game about the diversity of options the player has - from party building to downtime and even to romances. However, one essential factor in getting through this game is constantly fusing personas to improve them.

From the initial cute slimes found in the early game to the colossal Gordo slimes that dwarf the player, Slime Rancher 2 is a love letter to one of the most fantastic creatures to ever plague the lower levels of RPGs: slimes.

Slimes can be fused to make largo slimes - bouncy, jolly, adorable slimes that are larger than their unfused counterparts and usually have the utility of both their parts put together in one entity to occasionally hilarious results.

1 Impossible Creatures

A Wild RTS Gem

While most titles in this list have involved fusion together fantastical creatures or, well, people, Impossible Creatures has the fusion occur from normal earthly animals, and it's only the final fusion that is fantastical.

Terrifying scorpion cheetahs or crab-tigers or tiger-bears or whatever the player can dream up in the confines of this surprisingly in-depth RTS from 2003 are all on the table for players who want to try forging an animal army of their own design.
