Developer Sandbox Interactive has just confirmed that its MMORPG Albion Online will be heading to Xbox consoles in Spring 2026. This upcoming Xbox release will mark the first time Albion Online has been ported to a home console, with it currently only being available on PC and mobile devices.
Set in a medieval fantasy world inspired by Arthurian legend, Albion Online first released in July 2017. While it shares a name with the primary setting of the Fable franchise, it's entirely unrelated to the action-RPG series. In Albion Online, players begin by creating a custom character, but unlike other popular MMORPGs, they don't choose a starting class. Instead, Albion Online allows players to swap classes on the fly by equipping different armor sets and items. Despite being almost a decade old, Albion Online is still bringing in a sizable player-base, with tracker site SteamDB claiming that the game has a 24-hour peak player count of over 12,000, which is around half of Final Fantasy 14's Steam 24-hour peak, but double Star Wars: The Old Republic's.

Albion Online Is Coming to Xbox Series X/S
Albion Online is officially coming to Xbox Series X/S, which was confirmed by developer Sandbox Interactive on January 21, but was recently spotlighted by PureXbox. This announcement came as part of Albion Online's 2026 roadmap, which detailed new faction features, new events, and teased a complete visual overhaul for the nine-year-old MMORPG. This roadmap confirmed that Albion Online's Xbox port is slated to launch in Spring 2026, which could mean anytime between March and May.
This Xbox version will be the first time Albion Online has been ported to a console, and as Sandbox Interactive's announcement puts it, it's a "huge milestone on Albion’s cross-platform journey." Not much information has been given about Albion Online's Xbox version, though Sandbox has confirmed that it will feature a new "UI navigation flow" specifically designed to make the experience more seamless when using an Xbox controller. Sandbox's announcement also stated that this Xbox port "opens the door for possible further console expansions in the future," which alludes to a potential PS5 version.
Spring is set to be a rather busy season for Albion Online. Along with the Xbox port, Albion Online is set to receive its first major content update of 2026 at the start of Spring. This update will include the aforementioned visual overhaul of Albion Online's open world, as well as "significant performance improvements," a new 1v1 PvP arena, and a new Armory feature that will let players discover and experiment with new build loadouts. Soon after the launch of Albion Online's Xbox port, the MMORPG will receive a sizable Summer update that will bring dragons to the game, offering both new PvE and PvP experiences for high-level players. A limited-time 'Keeper Event' is also set to take place just following the release of Albion Online on Xbox, letting newcomers immediately share a social experience with the rest of Albion Online's player-base.
Only a decade ago, MMOs were considered a mostly PC affair. While a handful, like DC Universe Online and Warframe, made the leap to consoles, they were in the minority for quite a while. But in the last few years or so, Xbox has built itself a surprisingly strong library of MMOs. Here are just a few of the best MMOs currently available on Xbox Series X/S:
- Final Fantasy 14 Online
- The Elder Scrolls Online
- Fallout 76
- Elite: Dangerous
- Star Trek Online
- Neverwinter
- Warframe
- Black Desert Online
- Phantasy Star Online 2
