There’s a co-op game for everyone out there, from player count to genre type. Anyone looking to have a cozy two-player adventure may want to check out It Takes Two, which is an imaginative platformer that is co-op only, actually. Then there are good three-player shooters like Destiny 2 for most of the Strike-based missions.

These co-op games delivered a perfect experience, but few gamers seem to remember their existence today.

Anyone looking for a game with four players needs to look no further than these games. With repeatable content to grind through with friends, along with some cases that keep updating, these games are guaranteed not to get old with the right crowd. Some even offer couch co-op along with online support.

Borderlands 4 is the latest big multiplayer game that co-op fans should keep an eye on, as Gearbox will assuredly have some updates coming down the line. Two players can have fun on the couch, on consoles, or four can stream together online.

With four classes to choose from and each having a three-way split skill tree, players can find the right group to mix and match their abilities. This open-world first-person RPG shooter has world events that drop rate loot, side missions to do, and just random exploring that can be fun with friends.

Diablo 4 keeps getting better because Blizzard is always updating the game, plus there are world events to keep in mind to endlessly grind for loot like in Borderlands 4. With multiple classes to choose from, players can go through the campaign with friends on one difficulty, and then keep going until they reach the greatest difficulty they can handle.

It may be repetitive, but with the loot grind and friends along for the ride, it won’t feel as monotonous. Players can gather with a friend on the couch with an ample amount of screen space to share between the two, or four players online can group up in this top-down action RPG.

Tom Clancy's The Division may be the older of the two games, but since it just got an impressive update on the PS5, now is a good time to check this game out. Set in New York City, players will have to fight back against factions from taking over during a city-wide viral pandemic.

With cover-shooting, repeatable quests for loot, and a post-game grind, this Tom Clancy game is one to play during the winter months to match vibes. The co-op isn’t as flexible as other games since it’s all online, but that shouldn’t stop players from checking it out if they are curious.

Monster Hunter Wilds is staying strong with updates, from seasonal events to celebrate the holidays to crossover events with other games like Final Fantasy. This is one of the first Monster Hunter games that is possible to play solo because the AI partners who can join are quite competent, but that also robs players of joining three friends online to see their cool armor on hunts.

Palworld is currently in Early Access and is a Pokemon-like action RPG that works perfectly fine as a solo game. Players can set up their base, catch some monsters called Pals, send some to manage the base, and then go out and explore.

It’s manageable alone, but with three other friends online, they can help build bigger and wilder creations without having to worry about relying on the AI of Pals to do it. Also, exploring with friends can make taking down some of the bigger and rarer Pals more easily without exhausting their own Pal party.

Dragon’s Crown is all about simplicity, giving players options upfront to then focus on the combat. There are six selectable characters who fall into classic RPG roles, like a ranged archer or a mage.

In 2D dungeons, players can brawl their way through with melee attacks and skills, picking up loot, and making small decisions along the way. They can do this with four players online or on the couch. Currently, PlayStation owners are the only ones who get to enjoy this game, but maybe one day Vanillaware will port it.

Full Metal Furies is a full brawler that has four-player co-op, both online and offline, starring a ragtag group of girls who each have a custom class. There are two melee fighters and two ranged fighters, each with gadgets, skills, and weapons to collect as players go through missions and level them up.

Triss, for example, uses a shield to bash foes, but it can also be used to protect the team with various defensive maneuvers. Meg, on the other hand, is best placed in the back row to snipe enemies, so every player has a role.

Mercenary Kings is kind of like a 2D version of Borderlands and Monster Hunter, at least when it comes to wild guns and the mission structure. Players can go on quick missions in a few different biomes, which change the objectives and landscape subtly.

For example, one mission may be blocked off except for a specific area where a boss is waiting, while another, on the same map, could have placed NPCs around to rescue. With gathered parts from quests, players can customize weapons from a trombone machine gun to a toilet pistol, which is easily the best part of this four-player run-and-gun platformer.

Ember Knights is a rare example of a roguelike with four-player co-op, for players offline on the couch and online. There are no classes in this top-down action game, but players can choose their preferred weapon and flame color.

The basic gameplay loop is similar to most, as players will dive into dungeons, get stronger with friends, die, and then go back to the HUB zone to unlock various perks. It’s a simple repetitive process, but the nice thing about the randomization of roguelikes is that they are technically infinite, which is good news for co-op fans.

Alienation is one of Housemarque’s most underrated games, featuring armored warriors that look a bit like the Spartans from the Halo franchise. In this top-down shooter, players will have to mow down dozens, if not hundreds, of aliens per mission.

They come in hordes, so it’s obviously less challenging with a team of four. After missions, players can swap gear around to get better armor perks or weapons. It’s not a roguelike, but the loot system and simple mission structure can be fun to keep players interested for a while.
