Summary

  • Claire and Chris make a fierce vow to take down Umbrella once and for all - Resident Evil: Code Veronica
  • Leon's forced transition into a Special Agent is revealed with a cryptic ultimatum - Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
  • Ada's enigmatic nature is encapsulated through a swift, cold acceptance of a new job - Resident Evil 6

While the opening line to a game is always crucial for setting the stage, it's just as important to have a fitting sendoff to ensure the experience doesn't end too abruptly. When it comes to Resident Evil, a series known for its colorful use of weird and cheesy dialogue, there have been plenty of memorable final lines said at the closing moments of the games, with some summing up the nightmarish journey, while others hint at potential sequels that leave fans excited for what's to come.

Resident Evil Franchise Boss Tier List

With over eight mainline entries behind it, the Resident Evil series has amassed a catalog of boss battles which vary wildly in their quality.

Needless to say, players will want to stick around until the very last moments of a Resident Evil game to make sure they don't miss anything, since there's no telling what they might hear from the characters before the credits begin to roll. When taking into account overall impact and memorability, these are undoubtedly the very best final lines in the Resident Evil franchise of games.

Code Veronica kicks off with a bang, opening up with an action-packed cutscene of Claire sprinting through an Umbrella facility while being fired upon from each and every direction by swarms of soldiers. However, after being trapped on Rockfort Island, the mission to expose Umbrella takes a backseat for much of the game, despite it still being the ultimate goal for not only Claire but her brother Chris too.

Even after such an arduous journey, Chris confirms that is still his top agenda at the very end of the game with a climactic line that sounds like a badass proclamation of war against Umbrella. Unfortunately, fans wouldn't be able to see this final battle actually take place on-screen, but despite that, this line still does an excellent job at keeping Umbrella at the focus of the franchise, no matter how weird and bizarre it might get at times.

While Leon was lucky enough to escape the whole Raccoon City fiasco in one piece, things don't exactly get easier for him after making it out. While it's established later on in Resident Evil 4 that Leon ended up becoming a special agent working under the president after the second game, how he got here was never explicitly shown, that is, until Darkside Chronicles shed some light on Leon's unexpected transition.

Resident Evil: Every Game That Features HUNK

Mr. Death himself, commonly known as HUNK, is one of the most mysterious characters in all of Resident Evil. Here are all the times he's appeared.

Sat in a dark room with a camera recording his every move, Leon is given this final ultimatum by a mysterious character who essentially forces him to join the government as an agent, after he proved what he was made of in Raccoon City. This simple line would add a lot more depth to Leon's character, making it clear he didn't want to take up this new role after being 'asked' to, which is also referenced in the Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Despite appearing in numerous mainline games, there's still not a lot known about the mischievous spy known as Ada Wong. Every time she pops up, it seems as though she's working for someone entirely new, making it unclear whether she can be considered a friend or foe depending on her current alliances, with this all being summed up in the closing shot of her campaign in Resident Evil 6.

After burning Simmons' research to the ground, crushing his dreams of reuniting with Ada and leaving him with nothing, she is then contacted by a mysterious caller who decides to offer her a new job, which she gladly accepts. The fact she is able to ruin someone's life work and then swiftly move onto a new mission no more than a few seconds later highlights just how merciless Ada can truly be.

Leon and Ada have a pretty odd relationship. Despite the two growing closer in Resident Evil 2, near the end of that game, it seemed as though Ada had truly been killed for good until she then randomly shows up out of the blue in the fourth game, where she acts as a kind of untrustworthy companion to Leon at certain points of the game.

While Leon usually remains tight-lipped about his true feelings towards Ada, at the closing moments of the game, when aboard the jet-ski with Ashley, he finally decides to open up a little when describing Ada as a part of him he simply "can't let go". This would be a heartfelt reminder to the fans that Leon and Ada's relationship was still far from over, and would continue to be explored in future games, while also just being a nice but rare moment of vulnerability from the iconic protagonist.

Talk about an effective cliffhanger, Village ends off with a line that still has fans scratching their heads to this day. After Ethan makes the ultimate sacrifice to allow his family and Chris to escape with their lives intact, the final scene shows the survivors flying to safety in a helicopter, but along the ride, Chris comes to find out that the B.S.A.A operatives who were sent into the village were actually bioweapons.

Despite being a tradition within the series, some Resident Evil games leave safe rooms out entirely, ramping up the tension of the gameplay.

Fans still have no idea what the B.S.A.A has been up to since the series experienced a light reboot in the seventh game, and in turn, why Chris came to abandon them after being one of their most loyal members. Ending the game off with this line immediately gets fans excited for what's to come, providing subtle hints at what they can expect from Resident Evil 9 and the future of the series.

Leon and Claire are forced to become partners at the very beginning of Resident Evil 2 after they find themselves caught up in the horrific zombie-infested Raccoon City. While both start off as fairly weak and naive survivors, throughout the story, they both come to realize the real perpetrator behind the incident is not only William Birkin but Umbrella, a pharmaceutical company that would act as the main antagonistic force for many of the games.

At the very end of the second game, not content with simply making it out in one piece, Leon shows he's become a true hero after he comments it's up to him, Claire, and Sherry "to take down Umbrella" once and for all. It's a line that cements Leon and Claire's roles as main players within the story, while simultaneously wrapping up their character arcs in epic fashion.

Revelations, a spin-off title for the Nintendo 3DS, introduced a ton of new characters to the story, each of whom receives a good amount of development and all have their own personal ambitions and backgrounds. By the end of the game, after all the betrayals, plot twists, and monstrous encounters, the game narrates what each and every character gets up to after disbanding at the finale of Revelations.

While most of these are positive, with many characters being able to move on with their lives, the game paints a slightly more disturbing picture for Chris and Jill, who have "no idea what horrific fate awaits them". This line references the next major event in the timeline which would see Jill seemingly being 'killed' by Wesker after he throws her out of a window, but it also acts as a bit of meta-commentary for these two protagonists who always end up getting involved in all kinds of dangerous situations.

By the time Chris appears as the main protagonist in Resident Evil 5, it's clear that years of fighting bioterror on a global scale has taken its toll on him, so much so that, at the beginning of the game, he asks himself whether it's all even worth it. For much of Resident Evil 5, Chris' only true objective is finding Jill, whom he thought had died years ago, but it's only after rescuing her he comes to realize how much is truly at stake, and the threat Wesker poses to the entire world.

Chris and Sheva therefore decide to pull out all that stops to prevent the madman from unleashing Uroboros on a global scale, leading Chris to finally find the long-awaited answer to his question. Despite the nightmarish horrors Chris is forced to go up against, along with the staggering amount of people he loses along the way, this final line shows that, deep down, he's still a man who's willing to fight as much as he can so long as it ensures peace for his friends, and the world at large.
