Summary

  • Castlevania Dominus Collection brings beloved DS-era games to Switch.
  • This includes Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia.
  • The Haunted Castle arcade game is included as a bonus.

Konami and Nintendo have officially announced Castlevania Dominus Collection, which brings the three DS-era Castlevania games to the Switch. Castlevania remains one of the most popular and influential video game franchises of all time. It helped innovate the beloved Metroidvania genre, and before that, 2D action platformers in general. Castlevania is still big today, with hit Netflix animated series and crossovers in other games.

Castlevania is being represented in everything from Dead by Daylight to V Rising, though hardcore fans are more interested in playing the actual Castlevania games themselves. Luckily, Konami has been bringing its Castlevania games to modern platforms through special collections. This effort has included Castlevania Advance Collection, which brings the three GBA Castlevania games to modern consoles, and has now extended to the Castlevania DS games.

While many Castlevania games are notorious for their difficulty, some of them break away from this reputation by being much easier.

As announced at the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, Konami is bringing Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia to modern consoles through Castlevania Dominus Collection. All three of these Castlevania games earned widespread critical acclaim at the time of their original releases and stand tall as some of the highest-rated DS games ever made, Dawn of Sorrow especially. Being able to relive these classic titles on modern platforms is awesome for longtime Castlevania fans, with the collection set to launch on Switch later today. The collection will also be available for Xbox and PlayStation.

What Comes in Castlevania Dominus Collection?

  • Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
  • Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
  • Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
  • Haunted Castle

Some Castlevania fans may be confused about how these games can be ported to modern platforms since they were originally released for the DS and took advantage of that handheld's unique features, like its touchscreen and dual-screen functionality. Castlevania Dominus Collection will let players input touch commands with their controller using a cursor on the screen, and they will also be able to customize the layout of the screen to accommodate for the information that was once displayed on the second screen, like the map. Other new features include the ability to rewind, quick saves, and a gallery featuring never-before-seen concept art.

Getting access to these beloved Nintendo DS games would be plenty for fans to get excited about Castlevania Dominus Collection, but the package brings even more to the table. Haunted Castle, the first Castlevania arcade game, is also included in the collection. It may not be as fondly remembered as the DS Castlevania games, but it's still nice to have a bonus game, and it should give franchise fans even more reason to buy Castlevania Dominus Collection.
