Mounts in Dragon Age: Inquisition can help players traverse the world much faster than simply walking. In addition, they can also be a fun way to change how they travel thanks to the various kinds of mounts they can choose to be traveling companions.

The mounts in Inquisition are all the same in terms of stats and speed, so it's all about cosmetics when it comes to picking the mount players want by their side. With this in mind, these are some of the best-looking mounts that players can unlock during their time with Dragon Age: Inquisition. Remember, each mount travels at the same speed, so these choices are all purely cosmetic.

The Dragon Age games have spanned many years and various storylines, with the upcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf marking a whole new chapter.

9 Asaarash

Armored and Dangerous

An image of the Asaarash mount from Dragon Age Inquisition
  • Mount Type: Horse
  • Requires the Spoils of the Qunari DLC Pack

The armored horses in the game don't have additional strength or stamina, but they certainly look pretty awesome. The Asaarash is a Qunari horse that is known for its resilience, often used by the Qunari military. Players can't access this mount from the base game alone though, as it can only be obtained by those with the Spoils of the Qunari DLC pack.

Players that have the DLC need only access the Special Requisitions chest found in the Undercroft in Skyhold. After interacting with the chest, the Asaarash will be available to use as a mount straight away.

8 Greater Frostback Elk

Frost Giant

  • Mount Type: Hart
  • Requires the Spoils of the Avvar DLC Pack

Harts are another kind of mount available in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Harts embody the beauty of nature, making for a great mount for those who want to do some role-playing with a Dalish elf Inquisitor. One of the harts that players can use is the Greater Frostback Elk, which has a shaggy coat and is covered in Avvar warpaint. The striking black and white warpaint of this hart makes it one of the more memorable mounts.

This is another DLC mount, as players can only unlock it when they have the Spoils of the Avaar DLC. Much like with the Asaarash, access the Special Requisitions chest in the Undercroft to unlock the Greater Frostback Elk.

7 Imperial Warblood

A Pale Beauty

An image of the Imperial Warmblood mount from Dragon Age Inquisition
  • Mount Type: Horse
  • Purchasable in Skyhold from the Mounts Merchant for 1200 Gold.

The Imperial Warblood might be a regular horse, but it makes it onto this list as it is a particularly pretty one. The white coat of the Imperial Warblood makes it stand out from the other horse mounts. It's the kind of horse that players can envision the Inquisitor riding while leading their army into battle.

6 Inquisition Barded Charger

Ready For Anything

An image of the Inquisition Barded Charger mount from Dragon Age Inquisition
  • Mount Type: Horse
  • Unlocked by completing the "Flames of the Inquisition Charger" mission at the War Table.

This is another armored horse that players can ride gallantly into battle or use to explore the various areas of Ferelden and Orlais in Dragon Age: Inquisition. This breed of horse is described as a "valiant steed," and it wears its own set of Inquisition armor to emphasize that bold nature.

This mount is only available as part of the promotional Flames of the Inquisition Armored Mount DLC. This DLC came with certain versions of the game: the Deluxe, Inquisitor, and Game of the Year editions. For those who have this DLC, recruit Master Dennet to the Inquisition when visiting the Hinterlands and complete the In the Saddle side mission. This will unlock the "Flames of the Inquisition Charger" operation at the War Table.

5 Hunter Shade Dracolisk

A Unique Companion

An image of the Hunter Dracolisk Shade mount from Dragon Age Inquisition
  • Mount Type: Dracolisk
  • Unlocked by completing the "Hunter Shade Dracolisk" mission at the War Table.

Dracolisks are a unique mount type in Dragon Age: Inquisition. These creatures look a bit like a cross between a horse and a dragon, and they have an interesting history in Dragon Age lore. Some dracolisks have unique abilities, such as being able to breathe ice or fire like dragons. Unfortunately, the dracolisks in Inquisition don't have any special abilities.

Still, they do make for fun and interesting mounts, such as the Hunter Shade Dracolisk. Once you have turned in enough dragonling creature research items or killed a high dragon, you will unlock the Hunter Shade Dracolisk operation at the War Table.

4 Red Hart

Majestic Beast

An image of the Red Hart mount from Dragon Age Inquisition
  • Mount Type: Hart
  • Unlocked by completing "The Red Hart" mission at the War Table.

The Red Hart is another DLC mount that comes as part of the Deluxe, Game of the Year, or Inquisitor editions of the game. It is a rare and gorgeous creature that is often thought to bring good luck when spotted in the wild. Tamed Red Harts are even rarer, making this mount a particularly eye-catching one.

3 Bog Unicorn

Undead and Untamed

Bog Unicorn mount from Dragon Age Inquisition
  • Mount Type: Exotic
  • Unlocked by completing the "The Bog Unicorn" mission at the War Table.

For players looking for something a little darker and more angsty with their mounts, the Bog Unicorn is a great choice. The Bog Unicorn is described as a creature that was once owned by an evil marauder, though it is now not quite dead and not quite alive. It gets its name from the sword that is embedded in its skull, as the blade points upwards and looks like a large unicorn horn.

Dragon Age Inquisition: Every Possible Romance, Ranked

Dragon Age: Inquisition boasts multiple romance options depending on player choices, and here is how they compare.

The Bog Unicorn is another mount that comes with DLC from the Game of the Year, Inquistor's, and Deluxe versions. Much like with some of the other mounts, recruit Master Dennet and complete the In the Saddle quest, and you'll then get a War Table operation that allows you to unlock the Bog Unicorn.

2 Light Torn Steed

A Light in the Darkness

Light Torn Steed mount from Dragon Age Inquisition
  • Mount Type: Exotic
  • Promotional Mount

The Light Torn Steed was a promotional one that came as part of the NewEgg Logitech Promotional DLC for Dragon Age: Inquisition, so unfortunately, it is no longer available. It's a shame that this horse/exotic mount can't be obtained anymore, as it has a striking design that makes it one of the best mounts.

The Light Torn Steed is made up of pure, bright blue light, but the horse's skeleton can be seen lit up inside its body. The mount looks like an X-ray come to life, so even though it isn't available anymore, it is definitely one of the best in the game.

1 Tiddles Majoris

A Distinguished Gentleman

Tiddles Majoris mount from Dragon Age Inquisition
  • Mount Type: Exotic
  • Purchase the Mystery Box in Val Royeaux for 10,000 Gold, then complete the "The Big One?" Mission at the War Table.

The best mounts in Dragon Age: Inquisition have to be the giant nuggalopes. They have all the cuteness of nugs but are big enough for players to ride. What's not to love? Tiddles Majoris earns the top spot thanks to its brilliant name and the fun way in which it is obtained. But any of the giant nuggalope mounts (such as the Greater Nuggalope, the Avvar War Nug, and the Knuckled Thunderer) make for amazing mounts as well.

If players want to get Tiddles Majoris for themselves, they will first need to buy the Mystery Box from the seller Deraboam in Val Royeaux. This will cost 10,000 gold. Once the box has been purchased, a golden nug statue will show up in Deraboam's shop. Interact with it and a War Table operation called "The Big One?" Will unlock. Once completed, Tiddles Majoris will be ready for players to ride.
