Summary

  • Cloud evolves from a loner to caring about his party in FF7 Rebirth, showcasing positive character development.
  • Hilarious moments like Cloud being called "Pops" or asking for 2,000 Gil add comedic charm to the game.
  • Cloud's blunt responses like "Cool" or "Kill Me" bring humor and authenticity to his interactions with others.

One of the best things about Final Fantasy 7 Remake was how they portrayed Cloud. He was a loner at first during the Bombing Mission, but he slowly opened up to the members of Avalanche like Jessie. By the end, Cloud cared about his party, even though he wasn’t fully joking around with them or smiling just yet.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Beginner Tips

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth can be confusing for new players. In this guide, they will find useful tips that will help them in their adventure.

It’s great then that the evolved Cloud got to sprout his wings in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. He has a ton of great lines in this sequel, from witty remarks even Peter Parker would laugh at to poignant messages about fighting. There are downsides to Cloud’s character as well, but the changes are overwhelmingly positive, and they're exemplified in these great quotes from Cloud himself.

8 “Pops?!”

Chapter 2, Chocobo Ranch

Cloud talking to Choco Bill in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

In the Grasslands region of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Cloud and the others have to get Chocobos if they wish to safely travel across the marsh. Upon meeting the ranch hand Choco Billy, he greets Cloud by calling him "Pops."

Cloud is older than Choco Billy for sure, but he’s only in his twenties. That’s what makes this reaction from Cloud stand out, as there is a notable rise in his voice. Calling Barret "Pops" would have made more sense, since he is older and looks more the part, but it wouldn’t have been as funny.

7 “For Two Thousand.”

Chapter 3, Mythril Caves

Cloud at Mythril Mines in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

In Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Cloud is getting paid 2,000 Gil for the bombing mission in the opening act. It’s a reoccurring problem, because Cloud wants his money, but Barret is withholding it. That amount becomes a joke in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’ s Mythril Mines when Cloud asks for another 2,000 to lead the group through the mines.

The joke keeps coming up during Chapter 3, as even Barret tries to negotiate 2,000 Gil out of Cloud. Repetition is what makes good jokes work, and even Cloud can’t help but smile at Barret’s attempts.

6 “Oh, The Jackass With The Bike, He’s…A Jackass.”

Chapter 4, Junon

Cloud dressed as a soldier in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Roche was one of the new characters introduced in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. He was a member of SOLDIER who had an epic bike fight with Cloud early in the game. He returns to Junon to chase after Cloud again in Rebirth, leading to another showdown, and this time they have an audience.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: 6 Common Mistakes To Avoid

Players will ultimately have an easier time in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth by avoiding these common mistakes.

When Cloud is leaving Junon and Squad 7, one of the men asks him who Roche is. At first, it seems like Cloud is going to say Roche is a friend, but then he doubles down and calls him a jackass instead. Subverting expectations is also a great way to create comedy gold.

5 “Cool.”

Chapter 7, Costa Del Sol

Cloud at the beach in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

For the PS5 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Yuffie got her own DLC. In the first part of the episode, she is wearing a Moogle disguise and unveils it during a boss fight in a Sailor Moon-like transformation sequence.

Yuffie does this again in Chapter 7 to Cloud and the others, and it’s even more elaborate. After the song and dance, Cloud just looks blankly at her and says “Cool,” before walking away. Cloud has a lot of great blunt responses like this, and this line is up there with the best.

4 “Kill Me.”

Chapter 7, Mt. Corel

Cloud and Cloud Jr in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

This is another great blunt response from Cloud, with an even cuter adversary. On the hike up to Mt. Corel, the party splits up into two groups. Aerith, Red 13, and Cloud are in one party while Barret, Yuffie, and Tifa are in another.

On Barret’s adventure, they find a baby bird that they think looks like Cloud, which it does because of its yellow feathered tufts. They bring “Cloud Jr.” Back to meet Cloud, which is when Cloud says this line about wanting to die.

3 “Well, We’re Here For You…I Mean It, Man.”

Chapter 8, Desert Prison

Cloud talking to Barret in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Cloud comes across as a bit standoffish to most of the party in the game, except toward Tifa and Aerith. He does have a sweet moment with Barret though, after his fight with Dyne. As Barret is wallowing in Dyne’s death, Cloud brings Barret back his arm and assures Barret he is there for him.

Even Barret can’t help but feel touched by this moment. It’s a shame there aren’t many more “bro” moments in the game between the two of them, but it'snice to see at least once.

2 “Kupo!”

Chapter 11, Nibel Mog House

Cloud as a Moogle in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

One of the best side quests players should pursue and finish in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the Moogle Emporium questline. Every region has a Mog House, where players can exchange rare goods via Moogle Medals. To unlock the store, players must first play a mini-game to catch little Moogles who are running amok.

If players complete all Mog Houses, the head Moogle will then transform Cloud into a Moogle too. He can only say "Kupo," but he seemingly doesn’t mind as he gets wildly into the idea before heading out. It is truly bizarre.

Chapter 14, The Forgotten City

Zack and Cloud in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Are Zack and Cloud ever going to see each other in this game? That’s one of the burning questions players must have as they play through Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Well in the final battle against Sephiroth’s many forms, the two do reunite briefly and then part ways again.

In the last stretch of the fight, Cloud and Zack separately fight Sephiroth Reborn. Before they do, each hero says a prayer on their sword, which is a callback to Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7, and it is guaranteed to give fans chills.
