Call of Duty is easily seen as the definitive FPS game, providing millions of players with an addictive and fun shooter with an annual release. However, with a new game every year, and often a disconnect between developers and players, some are taking a break from Call of Duty in search of something similar, yet different. If you're in the market for an alternative to COD and want to try out some great games that replicate Call of Duty's style while staying original, then give these titles a go.
FPS Games That Are As Fun As Battlefield 6
For players who love Battlefield 6 but want to branch out, these games are a perfect fit.
The games listed below are similar to Call of Duty in terms of design and game-feel, and are in no way discredited as "copycats".
Combat Master
Extreme Movement and Action-Packed Combat Galore
- Released: April 21, 2023
- System: PC, Mobile
- Genre: FPS
- Developers: Alfa Bravo Inc
Every year, a new Call of Duty releases and pushes past the point of lower-end hardware, leaving behind players who can't afford the system requirements. Luckily, there's a free-to-play alternative for PC, Mac, and Mobile! Combat Master brings the Call of Duty action to the F2P market, and players of all kinds can enjoy what awaits them here. The graphics are decent and respectable for how they support low-end hardware, but the real kicker is in the quality of gameplay. Action is fast-paced, with rapid movement in terms of sprint, strafing, and even ziplines and buildings to scale. Loadouts and scorestreaks keep each map unique while reminding you that combat should be fun and casual.

Titanfall 2 really cements itself as an incredible FPS experience, even when stripped to the bones. The simplest expression of fun from Titanfall 2 comes from its focus on movement, in which players have so much freedom and creativity in terms of movement that travel becomes as essential as the gun you hold. Titanfall 2's focus on immaculate mobility allows for great flexibility for every player, and the sheer smoothness of controls feels like a refined Call of Duty title that's both rewarding to run and gun. The biggest separation from Call of Duty here is the inclusion of big robots, as these mech suits can pack a punch, indulge in a power fantasy that no scorestreak could amount to, and simply feel like a whole new experience for those who need a break from Call of Duty's formula.

There's a lot to love about Frontlines, and most of the charm comes from the fact that it's built entirely in Roblox. This means that it's essentially a Call of Duty clone that everyone can play for free, and it certainly has the look and feel to back it up. The fact that Frontlines is a Roblox experience is mind-boggling, and playing it reinforces that. The biggest draw for Frontlines is its graphics and focus on realism, which is something Roblox players might not be used to. Frontlines remains fun to play thanks to its community, which is a nice change of pace from the sweaty SBMM of COD. With a decent selection of weapons, loadouts, and maps, all very reminiscent of previous Call of Duty maps, Frontlines becomes a great way to experience Call of Duty for free while trying out something new.

Players familiar with Marvel Rivals might recognise the developers of NeatEase Games here, who both have an Overwatch clone and a Call of Duty clone under their belts. With Blood Strike, players can embark on a variety of different modes and thrilling matches for both PC and Mobile, entirely for free. Blood Strike is a free-to-play experience, and players have an immense bout of action to enjoy. Combat is fast-paced, decisions matter, and it's always a thrill to run around and attempt to flank or camp to take out the enemy team in repeating modes. Individual plays can work wonders, but teamwork is where the community can thrive, especially with meta picks from a vast selection of weapons and loadouts. If players are searching for a fast-paced Call of Duty with a build-up from easy lobbies, then this can become a more casual experience worth investing in.

If you're searching for a shooter that blends WW2 realism with dynamic fights, then Enlisted is definitely worth trying out. Not only is it another free-to-play title, but it does so many things differently from Call of Duty, while remaining somewhat similar. In the modern era of COD, World War 2 has been a forgotten setting, with Modern Warfare and Black Ops taking the reins with every alternating annual release. If players strive for a more nostalgic time, then Enlisted provides the World War 2 experience with sprawling maps, stunning realism, and an enjoyable game feel. Due to the free-to-play status and WW2 experience, the player base is pretty casual, making each battle lengthy, engaging, and not overly challenging. Fights across trenches and villages are made fun thanks to the inclusion of AI teammates that you can control to stay in the fight, which feels like a more expansive Call of Duty: World at War.

Call of Duty is often split into two factions of players: those who like the WW2 setting and those who prefer the modern war setting. For the latter, there's Insurgency: Sandstorm as a great alternative to pick up and try. Insurgency: Sandstorm focuses heavily on classic Call of Duty map designs, with enjoyable loadouts and modes that ensure the arcade-style fun of COD translates to a great experience that stands on its own. Insurgency: Sandstorm can be tactical for some, but there's also nothing wrong nor punishing about running around solo with fast time-to-kill and limited HUD, which makes Insurgency: Sandstorm feel like Call of Duty in Hardcore. Modern combat remains intense, thrilling, and replayable, offering both familiarity and a nice change from COD.
