A rumor has suggested that Ben Affleck, who previously portrayed Batman, is rumored to be returning to the franchise, but this time as a director for James Gunn's Brave and the Bold movie.
This rumor has ignited excitement among fans eagerly awaiting news about the next Batman series. The Brave and the Bold is a reboot of an old show based on an original comic. Although Affleck has played the role of Batman in the DCU since 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it was announced in 2019 that he would not return to the role for Matt Reeves' The Batman. Instead, Robert Pattinson would portray the iconic character. However, this recent rumor suggests that Affleck's interest in the Batman franchise has not waned, as he is being considered to direct the reboot of The Brave and the Bold.
Jeff Sneider (@TheInSneider), a reporter for The Ankler, posted a tweet in response to another tweet criticizing Affleck's spot in the DCU. In his response, he points out the rumor that Affleck is set to take on the director role for the new Batman film. "And now for today's MAIN EVENT. A column from @FilmNerdJamie about why BEN AFFLECK, who is rumored to direct THE BRAVE & THE BOLD, should steer clear of the DCU altogether and focus on the kinds of movies he does best, like Best Picture winner ARGO, and, from what we hear... AIR."
As for the big question of who will play Batman in the upcoming film, Pattinson will not star in Brave and the Bold because Reeves' The Batman universe is not part of Gunn's DCU. Affleck was recently pictured on the set of the new Aquaman film with Jason Momoa, essentially confirming his return as the character in the franchise. Speculation suggests that the DCU reboot could introduce a new actor for the role or perhaps feature an older Batman.
However, who will ultimately portray the iconic superhero in The Brave and the Bold remains to be seen. The rumor of Affleck directing a DCU Batman reboot has caused a stir among fans of The Dark Knight. While it remains unconfirmed, there is no denying the potential for a successful and fresh take on the character with a talented director like Affleck. The world of comic book movies will continue to evolve and adapt with each new release, but Batman will always be a cultural icon and a beloved hero to fans worldwide.
Batman: The Brave and the Bold is in development at DC Studios.
