Gloria Victis is an MMORPG set in a realistic medieval land where three major nations vie for control over various castles and settlements dotted across an expansive open-world map. Players can take part in faction PvP battles, battle enemies in PvE encounters, complete quests, harvest resources, and loot or craft powerful weapons and armor.
With such a wide variety of skills to learn and mechanics to grasp, it can be difficult for newer players to know how to get started. Here are some beginner tips that will assist players in their journey across the landscape of Gloria Victis.
8 Decide On A Playstyle
At the start of the game, players will be asked to create a character. Part of that process is answering a series of questions that will determine what class the player’s style of combat is best suited for.
Players should answer these questions as honestly as possible, as the answers provided will automatically determine which one of the six available classes is chosen. In most cases, that class will usually be the best option for the player, but if they want a specific class and didn’t get it from the questioning process, it’s possible to manually pick a different one.
7 Learn The Keybinds
Like many MMOs, Gloria Victis has a ton of different menus and chat channels encompassing features like guilds, rankings, events, arenas, and much more. Some of these are accessible through keybinds, and some are accessed through the UI.
To toggle the mouse, players simply need to press Alt, which will allow them to select icons on the UI and hover over current modifiers. Additionally, if players need to check their keybinds, they can click on the cog icon on the hotbar to view all the possible menus that can be opened and their corresponding keybinds.
6 Use The Right Tools
Across the landscape of Gloria Victis, players will stumble across many resources that can be harvested and used for crafting or cooking. Many of these items do not need special tools to gather, such as herbs or flowers.
However, others do, and using the right tool for the right resource can vastly speed up the process. Stone-based resources require a pickaxe, whereas wood requires a hatchet, crops require a sickle, and things like clay require a shovel. Using the wrong tool for the wrong resource will lengthen the process unnecessarily, so players should be mindful of this when gathering materials.
5 Don’t Go Hungry
Players will quickly discover that Gloria Victis has a hunger mechanic, which, if ignored, will have negative effects on health, stamina, and regeneration. To counteract this, and get some solid buffs to those stats instead, players should keep their character as well-fed as possible. They can do this by hunting and cooking food, or purchasing food items from vendors like innkeepers.
Quality of food is also important, and consistently eating high-quality food will increase the benefits of being full. Players should ensure they regularly satisfy their character’s hunger with high-quality food to avoid missing out on these substantial buffs.
4 Use Crafting Stations
Crafting is a massive part of the game. While players can craft most things in their inventory on the go, it will not provide the same benefits as using a dedicated crafting station. These can be found in most cities and towns, and crafting here will result in improved gear and increased experience gain. This is signified by the color green, meaning the item will turn out better than if crafted regularly.
It’s important to note that while players start out with a bunch of crafting recipes, many more can be purchased from vendors to craft more powerful gear and expand crafting capabilities.
3 Use Heavy Attacks In Combat
Gloria Victis has a direction-based combat system, meaning that mouse movement decides the direction of attack – either from the left, right, forward, or back. A simple left click will attack from that direction, but these attacks are pretty weak and won’t do much damage.
Instead, players should opt for heavy attacks, which can be performed by holding left click until the bar goes red. These attacks deal considerably more damage. They do take longer to swing, and use up more stamina, but the increased damage output is ultimately worth it.
2 Block Opponents’ Swings
Similarly to how attacking works, players can right-click and move their mouse to match the direction of their opponent’s attack. This will block the strike and avoid any damage, and can be done with both standard weapons and shields.
Shields are far better at blocking, however, as they give a larger area of protection and are more forgiving if the player didn’t get the direction quite right. That being said, opponents can kick shields to stun the player and break the block, so it’s important for players to block incoming attacks while also launching attacks of their own.
1 Save Valuables
Once players have crafted or looted some valuable weapons and earned a hefty pouch of coins, they’ll want a safe place to leave it all. Fortunately, they have access to their own personal depot, which is found in the capital city of their faction, and allows them to deposit items and money for use later.
The market keeper is also found in the capital, providing a way for players to buy and sell items in the player’s marketplace. This can be a handy way of acquiring new gear and selling unwanted items for decent money, although there’s no guarantee that any specific item will actually sell.
Gloria Victis is available on Windows, Linux, and macOS.
