Premium Bandai has announced three incredible new jackets available for pre-order inspired by JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. These jackets are embroidered, reversible, and in colors that will undeniably stand out in a crowd. The jackets are being made by Japanese fashion company 絡繰魂 (Karakuritama, meaning Tangled Soul), who specialize in this particular style of jacket, and are based specifically on the Golden Wind season of the anime.
The announcement of these new jackets came the same day that pre-orders opened on the Premium Bandai official website. The jackets themselves are a special kind of jacket called sukajan, which is usually translated as "souvenir jacket." These types of jackets became popular after WWII, and are a type of bomber jacket made with silky, shiny fabrics. They typically have detailed embroidery work on the back, usually following a Japanese motif - both traditional designs, and modern ones.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind is the fourth season of the anime, with 39 episodes airing from 2018 to 2019 in Japan. Its dub aired on Toonami from 2019 to 2020. The story follows Dio Brando, conceived in Jonathan Joestar's body, on his journey to become a "Gang-Star" and reform the gang, named Passione, that he has joined. The anime is set in Italy. Golden Wind is regularly ranked as one of the best seasons of the anime, which currently has five seasons.
There are three jackets in total that are being released, based on three characters, and all are reversible with two designs. The first is the main character of the season, Giorno Giovanna. The jacket is all purple and gold, inspired by Giorno's purple clothes and blond hair. One side of the jacket as Giorno embroidered on the back, and the other has flowers on the back, and a design on the front that mimics where Giorno's outfit has a cut-out on his chest. It also has his name, and the words "I have a dream that I believe is right" on the front on the character side.
The second jacket is Bruno Bucciarati, the gang leader of Passione. The jacket is all gold, brown, and white to match Bruno's color scheme, which Bruno himself on the back. Bruno's special ability Sticky Fingers is the main inspiration of the reversed design, with a zipper motif collaged over the jacket. It also has his name on the front, along with the English words "Are you prepared? I am prepared."
Finally, the third jacket is Diavolo, the main antagonist and first boss of Passione. Inspired by Diavolo's pink hair and purple pants, the jackets colors the same. According to the press release, this jacket has the most embroidery stitches of the three, which makes it worthy of belonging to the Emperor Diavolo claims he is. The character side of the jacket features Diavolo twice, once as his normal self and once as simply a silhouette to represent the two sides of his personality, and the reversed side mimics the design on his shirt. It also has his name and "Emperor as ever, this is an ordeal" on the front.
The jackets do not come cheap, at 39,600 yen each ($271 USD), but are a usual price for sukajan jackets. Because of the embroidery and reversible designs, this style of jacket is always expensive when it is authentic, and these JoJo's Bizarre Adventure jackets are the real deal. Not only are they being sold directly from Premium Bandai, they are also being made by Karakumitama, one of the leading sukajan makers in Japan.
Pre-orders for the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure jackets opened on Friday, September 1, and run through the end of the month. The jackets are scheduled to begin shipping in November. You can pre-order them here.
