Back in the late 2000s and early 2010s, a quasi feud started to form between Battlefield and Call of Duty. The biggest military shooters around, Battlefield and Call of Duty fought for dominance every time a new entry released, with Battlefield using its large-scale maps and game modes to its advantage, and Call of Duty embracing its fast-paced, arena shooter-like gameplay. But with the current state of the Battlefield franchise, that pseudo-feud is virtually non-existent now.

But a spark might soon rekindle that healthy competition. The next Battlefield is now officially well into its development cycle, and while fans still haven't been given much information about what the next entry will contain, it seems very likely that it'll have one feature that Call of Duty no longer has under its belt.

The Next Battlefield Will Likely Have a Platinum Trophy While Call of Duty Doesn't

Why The Last Few Call of Duty Entries Haven't Had a Platinum Trophy

Over the last few years, Activision has been trying to expand the Call of Duty franchise's cross-media synergy, such as by implementing Modern Warfare story details into Call of Duty: Warzone. Last year, this desire for increased synergy resulted in the release of Call of Duty HQ, a central launch platform that allows players to access the last few Call of Duty entries all in one place.

In theory, Call of Duty HQ is a convenient evolution for the annual franchise, allowing players to access all of their downloaded Call of Duty entries and swap between them on the fly via just one menu screen. However, Call of Duty HQ isn't without its fair share of issues. One of these downsides is the app's extreme install size, which has occasionally required players to download assets from entries they don't even own just so they can play Call of Duty: Warzone.

Another big downside of Call of Duty HQ's introduction is that Platinum Trophies no longer exist for the PlayStation versions of Call of Duty. Beginning with last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and repeated with the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, new CoD entries are now listed as DLC. Though these entries still have trophies, they're missing that all-important Platinum Trophy. Even if the next Battlefield doesn't stick the landing, it'll at least have a Platinum Trophy, probably.

Why Fans Miss Call of Duty's Platinum Trophy

While trophy hunting certainly isn't for everyone, Call of Duty has had a long history of having fairly approachable and enjoyable Platinum Trophy journeys. These journeys have often seen players overcome some difficult challenges, complete the campaign on the highest difficulty, find some easy-to-miss Easter eggs, and essentially see everything the game has to offer.

Though Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops 6 still have plenty of trophies that reward the player for overcoming challenges and seeing everything there is to see, the lack of a Platinum Trophy at the end makes the journey feel much less rewarding. That final Platinum Trophy pop is what cements the player's 100% completion, marks the journey's end, and makes the whole process feel like it was all worth it.
