The Battlefield and Call of Duty rivalry has been going on for decades, with CoD beating Battlefield in sales and reviews most of the time. We don't have official sales numbers for Black Ops 7 to compare to Battlefield 6 just yet, but there are reviews out for both games that paint an interesting picture of how the titles have been received. There's still time for the scores to fluctuate as more Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 reviews are counted, but the Battlefield 6 overall review score is unlikely to shift at this point.
In terms of professional reviews, Battlefield 6 currently has an 83 overall rating on both Metacritic and OpenCritic. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, meanwhile, has an 84 on Metacritic and a 76 on OpenCritic. It seems more reviews were counted for the latter, which explains the discrepancy, and could be a sign that the Black Ops 7 Metacritic review is destined to dip below Battlefield 6's in time. However, at the time of this writing, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is currently beating the Battlefield 6 Metacritic score by a single point.
Analyst: Black Ops 7 Sales Will Beat Battlefield 6
Despite a huge player count and big sales, an industry analyst predicts that Black Ops 7 will come out on top over Battlefield 6.
Call of Duty Black Ops 7 vs. Battlefield 6 Review Scores
The user scores are a completely different story. On Metacritic, the Battlefield 6 user score is 6.7, with user reviews complaining about the battle royale, live-service elements, and lack of the gargantuan maps that were the franchise's bread and butter. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 currently has an abysmal user score of 1.6, making it one of the lowest-rated video games of all time in terms of user scores.
The huge gulf between the Black Ops 7 critic score and user score is because people are flooding the game's page with 0/10s due to the controversial campaign and use of AI assets. Certain story moments in the Black Ops 7 campaign seem to be the main point of contention for most upset fans leaving negative scores, as they feel it's not true to the franchise's identity.
The Black Ops 7 campaign is certainly one of the most bizarre in franchise history, though gameplay-wise, it is still fairly fun. For what it's worth, the Battlefield 6 campaign has also faced its fair share of criticism, with many pointing to how derivative it is of older Call of Duty games. It seems most fans agree that both campaigns are relatively lackluster, though fans are more offended by Black Ops 7.
Of course, the campaign is only a small part of these games and not the reason the vast majority of people buy them anyway. Even though the campaign is bad and the use of AI assets is disappointing, Black Ops 7 still offers a feature-rich multiplayer experience and a fun Zombies mode. Battlefield 6's campaign may be its weakpoint and while purists have criticized its multiplayer, most are finding to be an action-packed and exciting online experience. It will be interesting to see how perception of both games shifts over time, especially since they are live-service titles that will be regularly updated with substantial new content in the months ahead.
