One Battlefield 6 player believes they've uncovered a massive unannounced nerf to sniper rifles, causing some players to miss well-aimed shots because they aren't using the Recon class. Battlefield 6 made its highly anticipated debut on October 10, 2025, and is currently available to play on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
Battlefield 6 features an open weapons system, which means that every class has access to every weapon. Previously, the franchise had favored closed weapons, but that changed with the release of Battlefield 2042. The shift toward open weapons has proven to be controversial within the community, as some players prefer a closed weapons system where access to certain guns remain locked behind the class a player has chosen. Fortunately, the developers of Battlefield 6 have chosen to cater to both preferences, as players can choose to participate in playlists that feature closed or open weapons.
Battlefield 6’s Sniper Rifles Have Been Nerfed
In a recent post on Twitter, the streamer StodehTV posted footage of themselves using a sniper rifle in the game's firing range. In the footage, StodehTV can be seen aiming down sights with a sniper rifle. Despite lining up what appeared to be the perfect shot, the streamer missed the target twice. StodehTV managed to hit the target on a third shot, though his method for aiming at the target appeared to be exactly the same. According to them, sniper shots will randomly miss their target (despite being perfectly aligned), if the player has not chosen to play the Recon class in Battlefield 6.
StodehTV went on to say that sniper rifles didn't function this way during Battlefield 6's beta period, meaning the change had to have been silently added to the title ahead of launch. In the comments, players seemed split on the decision to have sniper rifles function this way. Some people claim that the nerf defeats the purpose of the open weapons system, forcing players to miss well-aimed shots simply because they didn't choose the right class. Others disagreed, suggesting that the nerf adds value to choosing the Recon class, as other roles simply aren't proficient with the sniper rifle.
How the developers will respond to this criticism remains to be seen, but for now, it seems as if gamers looking to utilize snipers effectively in Battlefield 6 should consider choosing the Recon class when starting up a match. Despite a few hiccups here and there along the way, many fans are feeling optimistic about the future of Battlefield 6.
