Some Battlefield 6 players are criticizing the shooter's post-launch roadmap, even going so far as to say that the game is "not feature-complete" compared to previous entries in the series. Season 1 of Battlefield 6 is set to begin on October 28, but some members of the community are already unhappy with the content DICE has planned for the rest of the year, referring to the additions as "COD modes."
Despite the unhappiness of some die-hard Battlefield veterans, Battlefield 6 is off to a flying start. The latest entry in the series has been labeled as a true return to form following the disastrous launch of Battlefield 2042 in 2021, with traditional features and key gameplay elements making a triumphant return. In just a little over an hour, Battlefield 6 peaked at more than 747,000 concurrent players on Steam, which made it one of the most played games on the platform. Publisher EA also recently revealed that its latest title has sold 7 million copies in its first 3 days of release.
Battlefield 6’s Strongest Sidearm is Perfect For Everyone — But Me
Battlefield 6 has a clear best handgun for players to make use of, but I refuse to equip it on any of my classes for sentimental reasons.
Battlefield 6 Players Are Tired of "COD Modes"
Unfortunately, the high player count and record-breaking sales haven't translated into an entirely happy player base. In a new post on Reddit, which has received nearly 5,000 upvotes at the time of writing, user Round_Reception_2315 said that "every true Battlefield player should notice that Battlefield 6 is not feature-complete." They explain that there are many missing elements from previous Battlefield games, such as artillery, bomber call-ins, cruise missiles, AC-130, A-10, and, most prominently, the absence of large-scale maps where these features would make sense.
The user then goes on to criticize the Season 1 Roadmap for Battlefield 6, saying, "Instead, the roadmap announces two new modes. 4v4 and 8v8?...Those are CoD modes." It was then questioned if DICE has "forgotten its core target audience," before stating that Battlefield players "want large, expansive, and longer battles on large maps."
DICE recently reduced the number of tickets on Battlefield 6's Conquest mode in order to shorten the length of the mode, but many were quick to point out that this was an "imaginary problem" that nobody was complaining about. With the two new modes in Season 1 designed for 4v4 and 8v8 combat, it's clear that DICE is shifting its focus to more fast-paced battles, which some Battlefield veterans aren't happy about. But not everyone agrees, despite the thousands of upvotes, many of the comments note that while the features mentioned by OP added to the "epic spectacle," they were also "low skill annoyances."
The competition between Battlefield and Call of Duty has been raging on for two decades now, and while the latter usually comes out on top in terms of sales, it seems like many are jumping ship this year. The next entry in the Call of Duty series, Black Ops 7, isn't set to launch for another few weeks, but Battlefield 6's grounded design and fast-paced game modes appear to be drawing in plenty of Call of Duty players. This is likely why many Battlefield veterans are criticizing DICE's approach to Battlefield 6, but the record-breaking sales and player count prove that it's the right direction for the series.
