EA has taken to calling Battlefield 6 the best-selling shooter of 2025 on its website, putting it above other heavy hitters like Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and ARC Raiders. Battlefield 6 is the follow-up to Battlefield 2042, a game that wasn't received with the same positivity and currently has "Mixed" reviews on Steam. On the other hand, Battlefield 6 sits at 71% Mostly Positive, despite a recent influx of negative reviews.
In many ways, Battlefield 6 sees players return to the boots-on-the-ground, quasi-realistic gameplay that the series was initially known for. However, with the launch of Season 1 and the RedSec battle royale mode, audiences have pushed back on the game a bit, pointing out its backslide into "unrealistic" skins, which were a major point of contention in the last game. Other common points of criticism include Battlefield 6's paid battle pass and a bevy of microtransactions, which many argue are out of place in a $70 game. In a new report from EA, it seems these pitfalls haven't broken Battlefield 6's stride, at least commercially.
If Battlefield is Ever Going to Beat Call of Duty, This is the Year
Call of Duty has consistently beaten the Battlefield games in sales, but 2025 might be the year that finally changes.
Battlefield 6 Is 'The Best Selling Shooter Game of the Year,' According to EA's Website
Currently, the Battlefield 6 section of EA's website features a banner that says, "Thank you for making Battlefield 6 the best-selling shooter game of the year," indicating that it's been outselling its stiff competition. At the time of writing, Battlefield 6 has reportedly sold over 10 million copies across all platforms. This would track with an early report emerging from The Games Business, which sees DICE's new shooter having a much stronger UK launch than Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, its biggest competitor. The Games Business also claims that Black Ops 7 has sold more than 60% fewer copies than Black Ops 6.
The Games Business' data comes from physical, retail game sales, not digital purchases, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.
It's important to note Xbox Game Pass when comparing Black Ops 7 to Battlefield 6: Black Ops 7 was made available on Game Pass day-and-date, giving "free" access to subscribers on PC and Xbox Series consoles. Naturally, this would translate to lower retail sales figures compared to Battlefield 6, which isn't available on any subscription platform other than EA Play Pro, which is $17 per month and not nearly as widely adopted as Game Pass or PS Plus.
Still, it's sold better than ARC Raiders, which launched just weeks after Battlefield 6 and has only sold about 4 million copies as of November 11, despite its viral success. Battlefield 6 has also sold more than other shooters like Borderlands 4, though this isn't typically thought of as a direct competitor to the multiplayer military sim franchise.
