Though each Battlefield entry has brought something new to the table, Battlefield 2042's additions took the franchise's formula in a direction that fans weren't too happy with. Following 2042's departure from the norm, many fans are longing for a return to the series' roots, and that's exactly what Battlefield 6 is said to offer.
In a September 2024 IGN interview with Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization, Vince Zampella, it was stated that EA is trying to get "back to the core of what Battlefield is" for the next entry in the franchise. While Battlefield 6 should make sure it has plenty of new content on launch, nothing would feel like a return to form more than the addition of a handful of remastered maps taken from the series' best entries.

Maps That Should Return in Battlefield 6
Battlefield's Wake Island
A staple of the Battlefield franchise since its debut in 2002, Wake Island has appeared in a total of six mainline Battlefield entries. Wake Island has been themed as a WW2-era map, a futuristic 2142 setting, a modern-day warzone, and even a Vietnam War-era map. There's no easier way to cement Battlefield 6's roots to the franchise's history than to include a new version of Wake Island.
Battlefield 3's Caspian Border
Battlefield 3 is home to some of the greatest maps in Battlefield history, and Caspian Border is widely considered to be one of its best. Arguably the pinnacle of classic large-scale Battlefield action, Caspian Border offers a vast playground that includes plenty of sniper spots, close-quarters arenas, and airspace for dogfights. Though it appeared in Battlefield 2042's Portal mode, it deserves another chance in the spotlight, and it would be an easy way for Battlefield 6 to evoke nostalgia.
Battlefield 3's Operation Metro
The opposite end of the spectrum to Caspian Border, Battlefield 3's Operation Metro is widely believed to be the pinnacle of the series' close-quarters gameplay. Operation Metro's underground tunnels are renowned for their chaotic firefights, with large teams being forced to duke it out in tight, cramped spaces.
Battlefield 1's St. Quentin Scar
Some of the best maps in Battlefield history have struck an impossible balance between all playstyles, offering enough close-quarters spaces for intense infantry firefights, offering larger spaces for long-range sniper duels, and offering enough space on the ground and in the air for vehicular combat. Battlefield 1's St. Quentin Scar manages to strike that balance perfectly. A remake of St. Quentin Scar in Battlefield 6 also has the opportunity to offer fans something completely new, as it would require a conversion from its WW1-era theming.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2's Arica Harbor
Another map that was included in Battlefield 2042's Portal mode, Battlefield: Bad Company 2's Arica Harbor deserves another remake, with its Portal version lacking the Rush objective layout that made it so popular to begin with.
Battlefield 4's Zavod
Much like Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 also has a bevy of great maps that deserve to be remade or remastered. One of the most unique choices would be Zavod, an abandoned Cold War-era tank factory surrounded by dense forests. Battlefield 6 could even go above and beyond and add Zavod's Graveyard Shift variation, a nighttime version of the map that encouraged players to use night vision goggles and play more stealthily.
