A Battlefield 6 player has discovered a workaround that allows them to disable crossplay on PC, something that is not available by default. The user has shared their method with fellow Battlefield 6 players on PC who no longer want to play with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S users. However, it does come with a pretty big downside, as those who make use of this workaround will likely be placed into multiplayer lobbies filled with bots.

Just like many other AAA shooters on the market, Battlefield 6 features crossplay capabilities that enable players to team up with their friends regardless of their hardware. While this is great for those who might be on PC while their friends are on consoles, not everybody enjoys being forced into multiplayer lobbies with players on other platforms. Games like Call of Duty and Battlefield often allow PlayStation and Xbox users to disable crossplay, mostly due to the fact that the majority of cheaters are on PC, but PC players don't have the option to do the same.

Battlefield 6 Player Works Out How to Disable Crossplay on PC

Although it is very rarely an option, PC players often campaign for the ability to disable crossplay due to the fact that they do not want to be matched with controller users, as aim assist puts keyboard and mouse users at a disadvantage. To combat this, Otto Bostrom, the professional Apex Legends and Overwatch player who goes by Ottr, has discovered a way to tamper with the game files in order to turn off crossplay on PC. In a new post on Twitter, Ottr explained how players can go into 'documents/battlefield 6/settings/steam/PROFSAVE profile' and add the following line of text: 'GstGameplay.CrossPlayEnable 0.' However, there is a downside, as this will likely fill Battlefield 6 players' lobbies with bots.

The pro player explains that, as this is a relatively unknown workaround, players who use it will have their lobbies filled with bots; however, the more people who do it, the less likely it is to become an issue. It's also worth noting that, as this is not an intended feature available in-game, players should be cautious when tampering with game files. PC-only crossplay in Battlefield 6 isn't something that DICE has commented on, and given that it is highly irregular for similar titles to have such capabilities, it's unlikely to be added in the future.

While PC players are tired of playing against controller users with strong aim assist, DICE did recently confirm that it intends to make some big changes to Battlefield 6's controller aim assist. In response to a fan on Twitter, Matthew Nickerson, console and controller design lead at DICE, said that the studio is currently working on a new aim assist system that will have "far less stickiness" than the current iteration. It's unclear when these changes will go live, but it should help console players have less interference when aiming.
