The Battlefield 6 open beta has peaked at over 470,000 concurrent players on Steam, setting a new series record by a massive margin. The historic milestone was reached even before the truly "open" phase of the Battlefield 6 open beta began.
On August 7, EA launched the early access version of the Battlefield 6 beta, which was primarily available to fans who signed up to participate via the Battlefield Labs platform or are EA Play Pro subscribers. Access keys were also distributed via Twitch Drops. The early access period concluded after 48 hours, making way for the free-for-all phase of the test, which is meant to run for three days.

Battlefield 6 Open Beta Debuts in Top 5 Most Played Steam Games
As early server issues during the Battlefield 6 open beta suggested, the ongoing test appears to be a resounding success, momentum-wise. Illustrating its popularity, the latest figures from SteamDB show the game peaked at 473,632 concurrent players on Valve’s platform in the early afternoon hours (ET) on Saturday, August 9. This positions it as the fourth most-played game on Steam right now, only behind Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and PUBG: Battlegrounds, and ahead of EA's own Apex Legends.
The game's concurrent Steam player peak suggests that well over a million people joined the ongoing beta test on Valve's platform alone. Based on historical data, its total Steam player count is ostensibly closer to 2 million than 1 million, and may actually exceed the former figure. Some other data points indicate an even higher player total, as EA reported blocking more than 330,000 cheating attempts during the early access phase of the Battlefield 6 open beta. While some cheaters likely tried to gain an unfair advantage multiple times, thus inflating this number, 330,000 cheating attempts would still be a notably high figure for a two-day-old beta with "only" around 2 million players.
The series' previous record holder, the Battlefield 2042 open beta, drew about one-third as many players as the current test, peaking at just over 156,000 concurrent users in late 2021. After release, that game reached a peak of 107,376 players on Steam, roughly 31% below its beta figure. If the trend holds, Battlefield 6 could exceed 300,000 concurrent Steam players after its planned fall 2025 release.
