After a few disappointing entries, the Battlefield franchise finally looks like it might be turning a corner. With a handful of in-engine trailers and a few months of secretive playtests now under its belt, Battlefield 6 is set to make its first widely playable debut. On August 9 (or August 7 for those with early access), Battlefield 6 will begin its first Open Beta weekend, and the excitement from both fans and series newcomers is palpable.
Despite not being able to actually play the game, over 20,000 Steam players have already launched the Battlefield 6 Open Beta. And with the Beta being available for everyone across both PC and consoles, it's very likely that this 20,000 figure will be just a fraction of the Battlefield 6 Beta's peak player-count this weekend. But before players rush straight into the action, they need to remember one vital thing that will ensure they thrive in Battlefield 6.
To Thrive in Battlefield 6's Open Beta, Just Play The Objective
Battlefield 6's Gameplay Revolves Around The Team Dynamic
The biggest thing that's always set Battlefield apart from competitors like Call of Duty is the series' focus on team dynamics. From a top-level perspective, it's Battlefield's large 32-player teams that determine the outcome of a match. The team that's able to spread itself evenly among all of a map's various objectives and control points, and the one that's able to balance infantry, land vehicles, and air support well is the one that will usually claim victory in Battlefield.
On a more minute scale, it's Battlefield's individual squads of 4–5 players that really affect the course of a match from moment-to-moment. Each squad member needs to ensure they've chosen the class that best suits their playstyle, and needs to make sure they're actually playing that class to the best of their ability. This means that Support classes are using their stims and defibrillators to keep the squad alive, Assaults are leading the charge forward, Engineers are taking down any vehicles in the squad's path, and Recons are spotting and taking out targets from afar.
If everyone in a squad is pulling their weight, the squad is focused solely on playing the objective, and the wider team is made up of multiple like-minded squads, then there's a strong chance they'll win the match. Though we haven't seen much of Battlefield 6's multiplayer in action, it's very likely it'll follow this age-old trend. This means that all players need to do to thrive during Battlefield 6's upcoming Beta is to play the objective and work closely with their squad.
"Battlefield Moments" Are Fun, But They Won't Win Matches
For a while now, Battlefield has really leaned into "Only in Battlefield" moments during its marketing. For instance, Battlefield 2042's reveal trailer from June 2021 shows a pilot ejecting from his aircraft, using a rocket launcher to shoot an enemy jet out of the sky, and hopping back into their own plane midair, referencing classic viral "Battlefield moments" from previous entries like Battlefield 3 and 4.
While these moments are really fun and memorable, players shouldn't spend the entirety of the Battlefield 6 Open Beta trying to force these moments to happen. The likelihood is, if players stick to playing the objective, these dynamic moments will naturally occur, as objectives will be the busiest areas on the map and thus the most likely spots for some classic Battlefield moments to emerge spontaneously.
