Battlefield 6 developer DICE has confirmed it will be nerfing the shooter's movement mechanics to "create a more balanced and traditional Battlefield experience," but the decision seems to have divided the community, with some strongly against the change and others all for it. Fans won't know what these changes feel like in-game until Battlefield 6 releases for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on October 10, but it looks like the community has already decided which side of the fence it's on.
The Battlefield 6 open beta weekends were a huge success for EA and DICE, as the publisher recently confirmed that it set a new franchise record for most players in Battlefield beta history, with well over 420 million matches played. However, it's now time for DICE to prepare for the game's full launch on October 10, which means there are plenty of adjustments, bug fixes, and quality-of-life improvements to be made based on fan feedback. One of the biggest topics of conversation during the beta weekends was around the game's movement, and it looks like DICE intends to make some big changes for the shooter's launch later this year.

Battlefield 6 Divides Community With Movement Nerf
On August 21, DICE revealed the changes coming to Battlefield 6 based on feedback from the open beta. The devs discussed the feedback surrounding the game's maps, weapons, modes, and more. But, most notably, was the confirmation that it would be implementing some heavy nerfs to Battlefield 6's movement. The decision seems to have divided the community massively, as some are all for a more grounded and realistic approach to the mechanic, while others point out that "less than 1% of the playerbase was even properly utilizing" the fast-paced movement.
DICE says it has reduced momentum, especially horizontal speed that is carried from a slide into a jump, as well as upping the penalty for consecutive jumps, which lowers jump height when jumps are spammed. Additionally, firing while jumping or sliding will result in increased inaccuracy. All of these changes and more will be available in the full release of Battlefield 6 on October 10.
The majority of the community seems to be pleased with these changes, as Reddit user ZYKON617 says they are "all for the jump delay" as it will "force Call of Duty players to actually stand and shoot." Others, such as TryIndependent6070, say they were "happy" with the movement in the beta, but if DICE wants to slow it down, "even better." Unfortunately, not everyone seems to agree. Various content creators, such as Blue and Enders, believe this is a change for the worse. "The movement wasn't good enough to warrant any nerfs," Enders recently said in a post on Twitter. "This was done to please bad players."
Many were comparing Battlefield 6's movement to Call of Duty's, which die-hard fans were extremely against. While the two are the biggest competitors in the first-person shooter genre, Battlefield fans enjoy a more grounded and realistic approach to battles, while Call of Duty is much more fast-paced. The two franchises are set to go head-to-head for the first time in four years, and as Battlefield 6's open beta was such a monumental success for EA and DICE, this could be a huge turning point for both series.
