One of the developers behind the massively popular Battlefield 6 is teasing a potential fix coming to the game's Portal matchmaking system, aimed at giving players the maps they want. The shooter's high-profile launch late last week has served as one of the biggest launches of 2025, with hundreds of thousands of players already jumping into the shooter. Battlefield 6 reported a massive peak player count on Steam on release day, with more than 740,000 players all playing just the Steam version of the game. Now, a big fix to the game's matchmaking may be on the way.

Battlefield 6's multiplayer queues offer fans a wide variety of different ways to play the shooter, both with friends and with other players around the world. The game features multiple different game modes for players to test their skills online, from traditional modes like Rush and Team Deathmatch to objective-based modes like Breakthrough and Conquest. Battlefield 6 also includes nine different maps for fans, with scenarios set in Cairo, New York City, and Tajikistan among others. A new update may soon allow players to be more selective with their maps.

A recent statement from DICE Producer Alexia Christofi is teasing a potential new quality-of-life feature coming to Battlefield 6. Christofi interjected into a conversation between two Battlefield 6 YouTubers on Twitter, asking if the content creators would use a "wait to get what I want" toggle within Battlefield 6. The option would disable the function to match players into different maps if their queue time runs long, allowing players to choose to wait in order to play on specific Battlefield 6 maps. Christofi also confirmed that the feature was something that the Battlefield 6 team had "discussed internally."

Battlefield 6 Considering "Wait for Preferred Map" Toggle

The introduction of a forced waiting function into Battlefield 6 could serve to ease the struggles of many players looking to queue up for specific settings. Battlefield 6's matchmaking system will typically attempt to place players into their preferred map, though it will often prioritize getting players with longer queues into the action. Later in the conversation, Christofi and lead producer David Sirland also confirmed that Battlefield 6 is working on implementing a server browser for players to choose specific maps or game modes.

Battlefield 6 Already Having Problems with Cheaters

Battlefield 6's runaway success has already seen the game smashing through its early expectations. Battlefield 6 earned a staggering $100 million within less than a day of its release, selling more than 1.8 million copies following its highly-anticipated launch. The game's popularity has been so monumental that Battlefield 6 has caused issues with EA's app, with franchise boss Vince Zampella even suggesting that fans should buy the Steam version instead of using the EA app. Battlefield 6's launch will easily stand as one of the biggest releases of 2025.
