It wasn't perfect, but the Battlefield 6 Open Beta was a great sign of things to come. Taking place over the last two weekends, Battlefield 6's Beta gave all fans the opportunity to try out four of the upcoming game's maps, a variety of new and returning modes, and a bevy of new features and mechanics that are being introduced this time around.
Battlefield 6's Open Beta was generally met with positive reviews from both long-time fans of the franchise and those completely new to it, which puts Battlefield 6 in a very good spot ahead of its full launch in October. That's not too long to wait, but if fans are already missing the recent Beta terribly, then they may want to try out these similar experiences in the meantime.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's Ground War Mode Offers a Similar 32v32 Experience
Ground War has been a staple mode of t he Call of Duty franchise since 2007's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, but it received a sizable overhaul back in 2019. Introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and then carried over to its 2022 and 2023 sequels, this new iteration of Ground War saw 64 players going head-to-head on much larger maps made specifically for the mode.
Much like Battlefield's Conquest mode, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Ground War had its two teams of 32 players fighting for control of five capture points, spread across the vast map. This version of Ground War also allowed players to drive and pilot an array of vehicles, which is quite the departure from the usual Call of Duty boots-on-the-ground formula. This mode even featured a squad spawn mechanic.
Call of Duty's Ground War mode doesn't feature soldier classes or the same grounded atmosphere as Battlefield, but it offers a fairly familiar experience for those looking to scratch their Battlefield 6 itch.
It's The Best Time to Revisit Some Classic Battlefield Entries
Of course, the best alternatives to Battlefield 6 are the series' previous entries, with them offering many of the same modes and the same general atmosphere present in the recent Beta. Many classic Battlefield games have had their official servers shut down in recent years, but there are still some left standing in 2025, including:
- Battlefield 3 - Servers working for PC version only
- Battlefield 4 - Servers working for PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions
- Battlefield Hardline - Servers working for PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions
- Battlefield 1 - Servers working everywhere
- Battlefield V - Servers working everywhere
- Battlefield 2042 - Servers working everywhere
Those who enjoyed the grounded feel of Battlefield 6's Open Beta will definitely want to check out Battlefield 3 and 4, though it can be a little difficult to get into a match in the former. Battlefield 1 is another beloved entry, though its WW1 theming might put off fans of Battlefield 6's contemporary setting.
Battlefield 2042 Has Come a Long Way Since Launch
For all its launch day faults, Battlefield 2042 is actually a good alternative for those who desperately want to keep playing Battlefield 6. Its controversial 128-player matches were permanently replaced with 64-player lobbies years ago, the most egregious day-one bugs and technical issues have been stamped out, and DICE has added a ton of content since the game's rocky 2021 launch.
Battlefield 2042 has just received a surprise update bringing a remastered version of the Iwo Jima map to the game, along with a free battle pass that lasts until October 7.
Some Great Battlefield-Like Experiences Lie Further Afield
While there's no series out there quite like Battlefield, there are plenty of other military shooters out there that emphasize teamwork, squad mechanics, and a grounded aesthetic. The Arma series offers a more simulation-heavy take on modern warfare. Hell Let Loose has very similar mechanics to Battlefield, though it has a WW2 backdrop. And Rising Storm 2: Vietnam is another great Battlefield-like game with a historical setting.
Even 2010's Medal of Honor reboot and its 2012 follow-up Medal of Honor: Warfighter could be fun stop gaps on the way to Battlefield 6's October launch, with their campaigns offering some enjoyable tactical shooter sequences.
