Battlefield 6: The Pros and Cons of 3D Spotting Returning

The controversial 3D spotting feature has recently appeared in a Battlefield 6 playtest, and it's a mechanic with some clear pros and cons.

Updated October 10, 2025 by Marc Santos: With the full release of Battlefield 6 and the many changes made to the game since its beta days, we've updated this tips and tricks guide to include more useful info that can help players enjoy the game more. Some of these tips are class-specific, while others include important know-how on general topics, including how to fight tanks as well as some map-related tricks players can exploit.

Best Settings to Improve Your Aim in BF6

BF6 Infantry Control Settings options

The best mouse and controller sensitivity settings for Battlefield 6 are going to vary from player to player, but if you feel like your aim is off even after fiddling with things in the Options menus, you'll want to know that the game has separate sliders for normal soldier camera sensitivity and ADS sensitivity.

You can do this by going to Settings->Mouse & Keyboard->Infantry Control Settings and set Zoom Sensitivity Coefficient to 0. If your aim still feels off, turn Uniform Infantry Aiming off as well.

Best Settings for Vehicles in BF6

BF6 Jet PC Controls

Speaking of controls, right below the Infantry control settings section is a similar one for vehicles. Here, you can find everything you need to make vehicle driving, aiming, and piloting feel a little bit better.

The settings you need to change here are all up to taste. However, we do recommend turning on Helicopter Assisted Mode and changing Aircraft controls if you plan on using either of these vehicle types.

Adjust Your Audio Mix and Settings

BF6 Audio Mix settings

The standard audio mix for Battlefield 6 focuses on clarity. You should be able to hear most things like player footsteps, the rumbling of vehicles, and unique weapon firing sounds well by default. However, if you want to make your experience much more immersive, select the War Tapes or War Tapes VAL mix. These two settings make everything in the game much louder and more visceral, though it may come at the expense of footstep audibility and other things.

How to Turn Off Damage Numbers in Battlefield 6

BF6 Damage Numbers setting

If the damage display on the left of your cursor is distracting you or watering down your experience, then you can turn it off by going to Settings->Graphics->Icons & Indicators->Crosshairs & Indicators tab.

However, it's worth noting that the damage number display is actually quite practical. With it, you'll have a better idea of how effective your weapon is at certain ranges. Of course, you can always just leave this to pure gut feeling (or use the contextual ping button to view a specific point or enemy's distance from you), but it's still something that's worth keeping in mind.

Awareness and Positioning Wins Games

BF6 Empire State flank spot

The first gameplay-related tip in this guide is all about awareness and positioning. While you can definitely rely on pure aiming and mechanical skill to win gunfights, having a high degree of situational awareness as well as knowledge of good and bad positions in any BF6 map is crucial to success.

If you're not quite confident in your ability to win duels, but you still want to dominate lobbies, then you'll need to rely on strategy. To improve your situational awareness and positioning in-game, remember the following:

  • You should always take note of where the current frontline is.
  • You should always keep track of where enemies are spawning from.
  • Always expect enemies coming from the team's flanks.
  • Shooting unaware enemies is always more likely to result in a favorable outcome.

Avoid Meat Grinders

BF6 Empire State main road

In BF6, meat grinders refer to chokepoints where large numbers of players from both sides are concentrated. Avoid running into these as much as possible, as the odds of you getting blown up here are at their highest.

Instead of rushing, dying, and repeating, try attacking the flanks. There are almost always side routes that players can take, but don't think that the enemy team won't try to do the same. Flank fights are usually smaller, and winning them is significantly more impactful, as they often lead straight to objectives or right behind the enemy team's main frontline fighters. Attacking flanks is especially important in BF6's smaller maps.

Stick to Your Role

BF6 Reviving teammate

The classes in Battlefield 6 are designed around performing specific jobs. Whether you're on an open or closed weapon server, these jobs remain the same, and if you want to make the most impact as an individual player, you'll need to keep these jobs in mind:

  • The Assault class' job is not just to score kills — it is to take space for the team by eliminating as many enemy players as possible.
  • The Engineer repairs friendly vehicles while destroying hostile ones. They're also great for blowing up buildings and other fortifications.
  • The Support class keeps the team alive and supplied with ammunition. They can also fortify or deny positions by deploying portable cover.
  • Recon players are more than just snipers — their job is to spot enemies for the team. Marked enemies will have a diamond appear above their heads, and they will also become visible on the minimap.

The Sniper Sweet Spot Mechanic

BF6 Sweet Spot hit

The sweet spot mechanic from previous Battlefield games is back, and if you don't know what it does, it simply means sniper rifles can kill players with an upper body shot so long as the target is within a specific range. The M2010, for example, has a sweet spot range of around ~100 meters, which means anyone you hit in the upper torso and above from that range will go down instantly.

You can easily find out how far away your target is by pinging/spotting them. If a range indicator doesn't appear, try pinging the terrain near them. Alternatively, equip a Range Finder on your rifle.

Headshots Aren't Always Good

BF6 Synthetic Tip attachment

If you're using an automatic weapon, it's often better to just aim for center mass instead of going for the head. Most ARs and SMGs have a headshot multiplier of 1.30x, which means they'll only do 30% more damage to the head compared to the body. This usually won't be enough to shift your TTK too much — the M4A1, for example, kills in four headshots or three headshots, one body shot. Normally, it kills in five body shots.

However, if you're using the Soft Point Rounds attachment, hitting headshots becomes much stronger. The AK-205 has an even stronger version of Soft Point Rounds that boosts its headshot damage all the way up to 2.10x, resulting in a three-shot kill if all bullets hit the enemy's head within optimal ranges.

How to Kill Tanks Fast

Taking down an LAV in BF6

Heavily-armored vehicles like tanks and IFVs have weaker armor in their rear and top sides, with the same being true for their flanks. If you're playing as a tank-hunting Engineer, you'll want to aim for these weakspots as much as you can, though this may easier said than done depending on the enemy vehicle's position relative to yours.

One rocket will never be enough to instantly destroy a tank regardless of where you hit it. However, you can combine your AT launcher with the Acoustic Sensor AV Sensor Mine or regular AV mines. Place a couple of those down near your target, then fire your rocket at the tank. If the enemy driver moves, they'll trigger the mines, finishing them off.

Exploit Out of Bounds Timers

BF6 Siege of Cairo flank

When you dip outside of a map's playable space, a 10-second timer will start. Many players will immediately fall back to the battlefield when this countdown begins, and we're here to tell you that you shouldn't be doing this. Ten seconds is a lot of time, and depending on where you are, you should still be able to sprint or drive through the out-of-bounds zone without getting killed. Use this trick to sneak into the enemy's backline.

Basic Tank Tactics

Destroying an APC in BF6

As a tank driver, your job is to break through enemy defenses and secure space for your team. However, you can't just roll into the middle of the enemy team and expect to survive. Here are a few tips for you to consider:

  • Stay near cover when possible. When rockets and heavy ordnance start flying toward you, you'll want to put something between you and whatever's trying to blow you up.
  • If you're playing on a map with jets or helicopters, stay near tall houses and buildings so you don't get taken out from above, but watch out for infantry.
  • Drive in third person, and shoot in first person. Using third person mode will give help you spot sneaky Recon players and prevent them from killing you with C4.
  • Mind your Engineers. If you see an Engineer that's running toward you, they probably want to repair your tank. Even if you're at full health, give them a ride, and they'll keep you alive.

Where to Practice Flying Air Vehicles

BF6 Ace Pursuit Portal Mode

Portal and Co-op vs. AI modes are perfect for learning how to fly a chopper or a plane. Fighting against NPCs will help you get the very basics of flying and dogfighting down, and if you think you're ready to fight against other players, then we strongly recommend playing the Air Superiority mode in Portal.

As a bonus tip, if you're having trouble flying a jet while using mouse and keyboard, try binding your Pitch controls to vertical mouse movement and W/S, your Roll controls to A/D, and your Yaw controls to your horizontal mouse movement (Use Shift to Accelerate, Ctrl to Decelerate, and Space for Afterboosters). This setup will let you fly with one hand and aim with your mouse as if you're using a rifle.

All About Muzzle Attachments

BF6 Linear Compensator Attachment

Muzzle attachments like brakes, compensators, and suppressors have a significant impact on your weapon's recoil, but perhaps more importantly, they also affect how visible you are when firing. Before picking what attachment to use, keep the following in mind:

  • Brakes that greatly reduce your recoil will make enemies Spot you when you're firing on them.
  • Suppressors will prevent you from showing up on the minimap when firing, but only after certain ranges.

Suppressors are typically locked until you reach rank 20+ on your weapons. Not only do these reduce weapon recoil, but they also prevent you from revealing your location to the enemy while shooting, and you'll only appear on the map to enemies who are nearby. If you want to stay sneaky without a suppressor, use the default Flash Hider attachment.
