Battlefield 6 is now only a few weeks away from its official launch, and as the wait grows shorter, it will be setting the stage for a fascinating showdown this fall. After an incredibly successful open beta period, the hype surrounding Battlefield 6 has reached new heights, and one of the biggest questions many gamers have is regarding the eventual launch of its anticipated Battle Royale mode.
An official announcement has yet to be made, but a new rumor from leaker CharlieIntel has suggested that Battlefield 6's Battle Royale mode could arrive as soon as October 28. It's important to remember that such claims should be taken with a grain of salt, but if true, it sets Battlefield 6 up to give the perfect one-two punch ahead of Black Ops 7's launch and fresh Warzone content.
Battlefield 6's Battle Royale Mode Launching in October Could Spell Trouble for Call of Duty: Warzone's Future
Warzone Remains Stagnant
Even after the long-awaited return of Verdansk back in April, Warzone has failed to make any substantial waves. As Call of Duty's Battle Royale counterpart, Warzone has major competition looming in the distance with the anticipation of Battlefield 6's take on the mode. If Battlefield 6's BR arrives a few weeks after the base game's launch, then Warzone could find itself in a lot of trouble, especially if it continues to struggle, even after Black Ops 7.
Battlefield 6's official release date is October 10. The game will be available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, officially leaving the past generation of consoles behind.
Battelfield 6's BR Could Be the Final Nail in the Coffin for Warzone
Of course, there's no way to know for sure what the future holds for Warzone, but it's clear that the BR offering has been struggling over the years. The Call of Duty franchise in general has been in a rocky situation, as the series' embrace of Fortnite-like skins and collaborations have soured the newer games for a lot of longtime fans. Controversial crossovers, like the recent Beavis and Butt-Head skins, continue to ignite backlash, and with Battlefield 6 teasing a far more grounded approach, a lot of gamers may be drawn toward the latter, especially if its BR mode maintains the same level of realism.
If Black Ops 7 fails to generate more interest in Warzone, then it might signal the end for the BR game. It's hard to predict these things, but out of all the Call of Duty series and spin-offs that Activision has the biggest benefit in sunsetting in order to focus attention toward better products, Warzone makes the most sense. Warzone has attempted to evolve over the years, but when compared to other titles in the BR genre, it simply may not be enough.
Black Ops 7 comes out on November 14 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Black Ops 7 is Gearing Up for its Pre-Launch Events
- A Call of Duty: NEXT event is scheduled for September 30.
- Black Ops 7's Open Beta starts on October 5, but those with Early Access can jump in on October 2.
- The Open Beta ends on October 8.
With a Call of Duty: NEXT showcase waiting around the corner, it raises plenty of questions about what will be shown. This event is set to offer a deeper dive into Black Ops 7's multiplayer, and it will likely shed some light on how the game will integrate with Warzone, too.
Only time will tell, but if Battlefield 6's launch and eventual BR mode take up the spotlight in October, then the Call of Duty franchise may be better off finally retiring Warzone for good instead of trying to compete.
