EA has confirmed that Battlefield 6 will run at a consistent 60fps across all current-gen consoles, with some even pushing beyond the target framerate. Alongside this commitment to performance, optimization is a top priority for Battlefield 6 developers as well.
The news comes as part of a fresh wave of updates following Battlefield 6's recent multiplayer reveal event in Los Angeles. After the troubled launch of 2021's Battlefield 2042, many hold hope for Battlefield 6 faring better on the performance and polish fronts. Early hands-on previews of Battlefield 6 seem promising so far, but the real test would be how well the first-person shooter holds up across a range of hardware.
EA Claims Promising Performance and Optimization for Battlefield 6
That question looks to have been answered in a recent interview with Battlefield 6 principal game designer Florian Le Bihan. Speaking with YouTuber Tech & Co, Le Bihan stated that performance has been a major development focus for Battlefield 6. The team at DICE, along with the rest of the developers part of Battlefield Studios, have ensured that Battlefield 6 will hit the 60fps mark on all consoles, including the lower-powered Xbox Series S. On the beefier PS5 Pro, performance mode will reportedly allow Battlefield 6 to hit framerates above 60, potentially reaching up to 120fps with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) enabled.
Meanwhile, preview builds of Battlefield 6 on PC have already been seen running at over 120fps, with smooth and stable results during lengthy multiplayer sessions. Le Bihan also revealed that Battlefield 6's optimization efforts are just as important as its graphical fidelity, and that the developers are aiming for stunning visuals that feel responsive and consistent regardless of the hardware they're running on. This is quite impressive given the amount of content Battlefield 6 will release with.
To that end, Battlefield 6 at launch will include nine multiplayer maps - including Battlefield 3's fan-favorite Operation Firestorm - and support Portal Mode, which allows players to customize and remix content. A server browser will also return, and EA has confirmed that crossplay will be an optional toggle for Battlefield 6 players too - an approach many consider ideal for the same. While 60fps has been the standard in first-person shooters like Call of Duty for current-gen consoles, hit-or-miss optimization often negatively affects the experience, and it's reassuring to know that the developers behind Battlefield 6 are cognizant of this.
