Battlefield 2042 received a surprise update yesterday, August 18, but one of the two new weapons added in patch 9.2.0 is already drawing criticisms from the community for its wide bullet spread. The Lynx Sniper Rifle was one of two new weapons added in the unexpected Battlefield 2042 update, but players are already referring to it as "the worst Sniper Rifle in the game," as one fan shows off just how awful the weapon truly is.
At launch, Battlefield 2042 was heavily criticized for a multitude of different reasons. The 2021 shooter took players to a semi-futuristic battlefield with advanced weapons, new maps, and more. Unfortunately, the title didn't receive the love EA and DICE were likely hoping for, as it was blasted with negative reviews from both players and critics. Complaints came flooding in surrounding the lack of server browser, scoreboard, its many bugs and glitches, and more, but DICE remained committed to rectifying the shooter with a steady stream of new updates. With Battlefield 6 on the horizon, 2042's life cycle is now firmly at its end, but that hasn't stopped the studio from releasing one final update to send the game off in style.

Call of Duty and Battlefield are finally going head to head once more, and their most fierce conflict revolves around a simple sliding mechanic.
Battlefield 2042 Player Shows the Lynx's Awful Bullet Spread
As the Battlefield 6 open beta came to a close on August 18, DICE gave fans a great reason to jump back into Battlefield 2042 with a new update. Patch 9.2.0 saw the return of Iwo Jima, the Lynx Sniper Rifle, and the KFS2000 Assault Rifle, among many other things. The Lynx Sniper Rifle is currently only available to those who participated in the Battlefield 6 open beta, but DICE has said it will become available "later down the line." With that being said, players who haven't got the weapon don't appear to be missing out. Reddit user AnonymousIndividual recently took to the Battlefield 2042 subreddit to blast the Lynx as "the worst Sniper Rifle in the game," showcasing how its wide bullet spread makes it practically unusable.
The short video shows the user aiming directly at an enemy's head, but somehow still missing the shot completely. "Sometimes it'll hit where you aim, sometimes it won't," the user said. Plenty of other Battlefield 2042 players seem to agree, as fellow user Newsandbuy responded by saying, "This thing is horrible, you either shove your barrel into your enemy's face, or don't try it at all."
The Lynx Sniper Rifle may not have gone down too well with fans, but the update does seem to have brought plenty of fans back to the 2021 title, as Battlefield 2042's player count is way up, at least on Steam. For the first time in almost a year, Battlefield 2042 has peaked at over 20,000 concurrent players on the platform, and it's all thanks to the game's latest update. Of course, there's also a good chance the players are jumping back in on PlayStation and Xbox too, but the player count numbers from consoles are not public information.
Battlefield 2042's sudden rise in player count is likely also due to the hype surrounding Battlefield 6 after its recent open beta weekends. Fans are hungry to get their Battlefield fix now that the beta is over, and with a ton of free rewards now available in Battlefield 2042 (some of which can be used in Battlefield 6 at launch), EA and DICE have given the community a great reason to revisit the controversial shooter.
