DC Comics has released a trailer for the launch of its anticipated Batman and Fortnite crossover comic, Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point. The collaboration between Epic Games and DC will see The Dark Knight transported onto the battle royale island, seeking a way to escape its mysterious loop while uncovering the origins of Fortnite's Zero Point.
Epic Games' popular free-to-play battle royale is roughly halfway through its Season 6 as of this writing. Dubbed "Primal," the season has seen a number of changes to the game's meta, including a primal weapon crafting system, Guardian boss fights, and other changes that remain somewhat divisive among fans. Fortnite began revealing details about the Batman crossover comic last week, filling fans in on what the Caped Crusader would be up to.
The animated trailer gives viewers an idea of the comic series' premise. As a crack splits the sky above Gotham City, Batman is transported to an "unfamiliar world" with his memories wiped. Showing what looks to be one of the six upcoming issue's cover art variants, the narration explains how The Dark Knight must fight in an infinite loop of battles, filled with "strange new foes, where all is chaos." Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Deathstroke make appearances in the trailer as well. While details remain scarce, it has been confirmed that fans can expect a showdown with G.I. Joe's Snake Eyes, settling the debate of which black-clad warrior is superior.
Each print issue of Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point will include a redeemable code for bonus DC-themed Fortnite items inspired by the comic, starting with the new Rebirth Harley Quinn Outfit. As an additional reward, any player who redeems all six codes will unlock the Armored Batman Zero Outfit. Issue #1 launches today in North America, with new installments arriving every other week in May and June before the final release on July 6. US subscribers of DC Universe Infinite, DC's online comic subscription service, can also receive redeemable digital codes for the crossover cosmetics.
While the pairing of Batman and Fortnite may seem a bit unusual, it is not the first time the powerhouses have intersected. Fortnite held a Batman crossover event in 2019, which introduced a variety of themed cosmetics and weapons, including the iconic Grapnel Gun and Explosive Batarang. Players were also treated to a takeover of the Tilted Town POI, transforming it into Gotham City. Given that the last DC-oriented event didn't have an accompanying comic, players can likely expect a bigger Dark Knight presence this time around.
Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point seems like a good strategy to get gamers into reading comics, and in-turn getting Batman fans to try out Fortnite. However, some gamers who don't play Fortnite for the story probably won't be interested in purchasing a book, let alone six. Those that prefer to focus on the regular Battle Pass grind can be rewarded with a different set of cosmetics, as super level Relic skins for Tarana, Raz, and Spire Assassin.
Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
