Summary

  • Batman: Arkham Knight now includes a suit inspired by The Batman on all platforms, but it has received criticism for lacking texture quality compared to other suits in the game.
  • The absence of The Batman's Batmobile in Arkham Knight is a noticeable oversight and can detract from the immersion of playing this iteration of the character.
  • Despite these flaws, it is commendable that the suit was added to the game at all.

The Batman: Arkham Trilogy’s Switch ports released at the beginning of the month and with Arkham Knight’s port came packaged a suit inspired by The Batman. This was a fantastic incentive for a port that would go on to run horribly, and it wasn’t long before the suit Robert Pattinson wore was soon brought to every other platform version of Batman: Arkham Knight. It is odd that the cosmetic has already leaped to other platforms since it seemed to be one of the few reasons to fork money over for an inferior port, but it unfortunately doesn’t appear to be that much more rewarding elsewhere.

Regardless, it’s wonderful to have the so-called Battinson suit from Matt Reeves’ The Batman in Arkham Knight since it helps contribute to a comprehensive catalog of beloved suits inspired by live-action adaptations. Having Christian Bale’s The Dark Knight suit as well as Ben Affleck’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice suit was terrific beforehand, but what continues to distinguish them in Knight as complete additions to the game is something Battinson’s lone suit inclusion currently lacks: a Batmobile skin inspired by the movie the suit came from.

Arkham Knight’s Lack of a Batmobile from The Batman is an Oversight

Arkham Knight’s Battinson Suit is Underwhelming Even Apart from the Switch Port

Unfortunately, the Battinson suit itself has been lackluster according to those who’ve already found opportunities to check it out on their preferred platforms. It apparently lacks the same texture quality that other Knight suits have, including the other movie-inspired suits, which has quickly put it at a disadvantage.

The situation is decidedly bad now that players still prefer mods to the official suit, showcasing how disappointing the suit is at the moment. Of course, since the suit was added to Knight at all it’s not out of the realm of possibility for it to be reworked in a subsequent update. In fact, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had subtly done the same with its Amazing Spider-Man 2 suit. But even if The Batman’s suit looked perfect in Knight there would still be no way of maintaining immersion within that role-play when seeing Batman hop into a Batmobile that isn’t The Batman’s muscle car.

Arkham Knight Not Including a Battinson Batmobile is a Glaring Omission

Because The Batman’s suit arrived on its own, it’s now highly unlikely that Knight w ill ever bother adding The Batman’s Batmobile later on. Of course, seeing this particular Batman doing half of what the Arkham series’ Caped Crusader is capable of could be immersion-breaking on its own.

Likewise, almost every other suit cosmetic has a cowl that won’t come apart like the V8.03 Batsuit’s cowl and looks awkward in cutscenes where Bruce unmasks. But while other Knight suits have associable Batmobile skins, it’s hard to deny that it’s missing a fun component of that role-play, particularly when The Batman’s Batmobile was in service of an exhilarating car chase in Gotham City that players would actually be able to recreate in Knight’s open world.

Even so, it’s spectacular that the suit ever made it to Knight and that Rocksteady hasn’t abandoned the game all the way up to now with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League launching in a little under a month. It’ll be interesting to see what plethora of skins is added to that game with each post-launch season of battle pass content.
